Tell me about Candolim

I am thinking of going to Goa. In my three trips to india i've never made it further south than Mumbai (and that was only briefly for a wedding). I have a friend who is in Candolim (I think that's the place) so want to get the lowdown on it. I searched IM and found some info, but not much. I am interested in basics such as accomodations, costs, how touristy is it, etc.

I am interested in visiting my friend but then perhaps escaping to somewhere tranquil nearby. Is this possible?

Much appreciated!

Hi Lotus, I think your not getting any replies because people think that these questions have been asked & answered so many times before, and you being here for over a year now with lots of input to the forum should be able to search out what you seek,,,,,,,,,,
This topic has been spoken about so many times in lots of threads about Goa.

But Candolim is one of the most touristy areas of Goa, lots of package holiday people, lots of alcohol related bars restaurants & related tourist shops.
Theres lots of holiday hotels, check our forums for prices etc,

Can't your friend who must know your likes advice you specifically.

There are peaceful/tranquil places in goa but Candolim isn't one of them,,,,,

To me Candolim beach struck the right balance between accessibility, amenities and crowd. for its location, its relatively less crowded than sat Baga, calangute etc with minimal foreign tourists. It does have a few shacks, so that helps if you want a drink or a bite to eat while you are on the beach. However, the scenic view is marred by cargo ship that is stuck a few hundred feet from the beach and has been abandon for a few years. http://www.goacom.com/joel/news/2005nov/16nov05.htm

Thumbs up Candolim- A nice and calm place than Baga and calangute

We have been staying in calangute or Baga till now.

This year we have booked Sea Pearl Guest House on Candolim, since it is on the beach itself.

Let's see how it works.

It is better place than Calangute and Baga.

but its easy enough to get to Calangute and Baga.
I find that there are more families there in Candolim,

Candolim is definately a better place than Baga and calangute.

We are just back from Goa, our trip was great at Candolim.

The only problem is that it is full of package tourists and the (Good) beach shacks are a very few on the beach and we found De Mello's to be the best in terms of Quality and price.

Josan165,

You are right.

This is definately a better beach than Calangute.

But I insist you to try Arambol once.

It is not less than a paradise on earth.

You will forget these crouded beaches of sequrim to Baga/ Anjuna if you try to stay on this beach once.

You will find great food, great huts to stay and above all the privacy you need. The least crowded and extremely beautiful beach.

Can anyone reccommend budget accom., like beach huts, in Arambol?
How far up from Candolim or Anjuna? How long does it take? Are there buses going?

Arambol is around 30-35 Kms from Calangute. I Don't think you will get some bus for the place.

Taxi is a better option.

I don't have any contact number of beach huts accommodation.

You may find a few in other forums on the site.
