Taking rented bikes out of Goa - Short Trip.

I along with a friend of mine are going to Goa on vacation coming August for 5 days. We plan to take a bike on rent to travel across Goa. However, in our plan, a short trip to jog falls is also there and we really really want to make this trip on bike. But, I have no idea if we can take a rented bike out of Goa. I have heard that short trip to nearby places is permitted. Please help me in getting some info regarding it ! Any help/info is highly appreciated.

Short trips to nearby places may well be permitted, but please note that Jog Falls is neither! It's a long trip to a place far from Goa. It would not be wise to attempt this on a rented bike.

What I really needed to know is: If we take a bike from some authorized rental service, will there still be trouble? I have no idea how to differentiate between an authorized and a non-authorized rental service.

Bikes which can legally be rented out have yellow number plates. Whether the guy who rents it to you is "authorised" to do so or not is something you will probably never know!
