Hi Sian
If you go swimming ,try not to go out of your depth ! The undercurrents can be pretty strong.I am a fairly strong swimmer but only went out of my depth at Bogmalo beach.(this is because it is a bay )
Have a great holiday !!

It means beyond your capabilities, unfortunately most people have no idea what their capabilities are,

Palolem is the safest beach I have swam in India (or Australia for that matter). There are no bad currents or rips, the water is shallow and calm and the waves are small. My children have been to Palolem three times and were 4 and 7 when I first took them there, and I have never been concerned for their safety at this beach.

safety is a relative thing. a beach that is safe one day, might not be the next -- due to weather etc,.

Hi!, Having spent well over a year in palolem i can tell you that it,s a relatively safe place to swim north side is safer, theres a life guard stand just as you come onto the beach from the road (whether there will be a life guard on it as opposed to the guys hiring motorbikes is another question!) over my time there several people did drown or dissapear only to be washed up a few days later , i also have helped to save 3 lifes whilst i was there the circumstances of these deaths being that nearly all these drownings are indians who cannot swim and who have had to much to drink but to be honest at the time of year your be there it will be safe as long as you can swim ok and take into account the sea conditions on that day, what i found with the sea in palolem is that it really does shift around sometimes dragging you left, right or out but that,s mainly been in the monsoon and just after. It settles down from oct,nov onwards and i swam quite a few times from the south side to monkey island but always did it with a mate! one other thing i noticed is that hardly any of the goans living there actually go for a swim!!
