For those in Goa in November-december, you might be interested in knowing that the relics of St Francis Xavier will be shown this year. They are brought out every 10 years:


13 lakh pilgrims expected at St Xavier exposition

PANAJI, DHNS:


Preparations are on in Goa, as it gears up to welcome the estimated 13 lakh pilgrims, expected for the 16th exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier. It is scheduled to open on November 23 and will go on till January 2, 2005.

The state government is making arrangements to accommodate 5,000 devotees a day at Old Goa, where the saint’s body lies in a mausoleum in the Basilica de Bom Jesus. The core committee set up by the state government to oversee preparations, has sought a budget of Rs 4.5 crore for the arrangements which include accommodation, transportation and sanitation. Schools in the area are being requisitioned to house pilgrims. Tents are also to be provided, committee members said.
