Southern Advice!
Hello All,
i have been a Goa regular(sometimes with friends, other times with my wife) and like most of you hooked to this wonderful place( even though it is getting crowded lately)i visit every year for a week and usually stay in the Baga-Calangute area, strangely am not the party types and always avoid visiting when the mad rush of christmas, new years or diwali holidays and preffer a peaceful shack with friendly service where i can drink on Kings non stop thru out the day and am mostly vegetarian but dont mind seafood occasionally. Its 8 years of the same routine up North and i am keen to try out the South( its gonna be with a couple of friends this time to recce things out and if i find the place great, next time to visit with my wife)!i would like some help/advice on where i can head! i dont look for star hotel style accomodation but i like clean safe rooms with or withour air conditioning with attached bath/wc with friendly reliable service,am not keen to stay in the middle of nowhere and be the solitary person on the entire beach as well, i hope i can get some helpful advice here! ![]() |

I probably shouldn't be replying to this, as will be visiting Goa for the first time in December. But have a friend who has lived near Palolem for the last eight years and I've done a lot of research. Palolem is supposed to be a paradise beach, but with wall to wall huts, and lots of nightlife. Great for backpackers.
We're planning to rent on the next beach along - at Patnem, quiet and idyllic, a few hotels and huts, but just 20 minutes walk to Palolem. |

even though im not a great fan of Goa, i have been a few times and i agree with sweet thursday. Patnem is the place that matches what you are looking for (in South Goa), unless you want to voyage on beyond Goa.......Have fun.....

Thinking about it in the first week in october you'd probably be good at Palolem. It wont be too busy but things will be up and running and a few people, although there should be shacks up at Patnem, which is only 15-20 mins walk from Palolem and while definetelly be quiter than Patnem. I suggest getting there during the morning/early afternoon and have a look at both and decide there and then. This can be done easily.

i will be staying for around a week maximum or till my money lasts,i have found Baga/Calangute to have become really expensive since the the last couple of years and the shacks more commercial and flashy than how they used to be,friendly, affordable and homely.I still feel Palolem may be slightly more reasonable than their counterparts up north.hope i am right...

Hi there!
My boyfriend and I went to Goa in February, and we spent a few nights in a lovely, welcoming place called Palolem Guest House. It was clean, felt safe, and the staff were lovely, especially a girl in the reception, who fixed us up with a scooter to rent in no time at all. I should mention that, hadn't it been for that scooty, we'd never found our way to Agonda beach, which must be the next big thing. There was hardly a soul about, and the little restaurant served up the best Goan curry ever. Hope this helps, Annie |

You are going at a great time No need to book just turn up and look around alot of the beach huts will still be closed but the some will be open and just to think the beach will be very quite is bliss
p.s This time last yr palolem resembled a bomb site as they bulldozed half of the place down (due to taxes on shacks and huts )but it soon got back to normal sharon |
