South Goa - beaches
I have been reading about the lovely beaches in South Goa but would like to know which, in your opinion, is the best overall in terms of swimming (weak swimmer), beauty, peacefulness and safety. Not too bothered about 'facilities' as we can take our own food and drink.
Will add a poll but would love to read you comments too. Also, have read that Polem beach is lovely but apparently it is a bit of a smuggling point and foreigners aren't too welcome - is this true? Thanks! |

IMHO, the best beach in South is Agonda
Benaulim is also very nice and clear Palolem is full of tourists although for sure it's nice and romantic place as well ![]() |

Butterfly beach - good, long sand and private/ quiet, but hard to get to, if you don't take a boat from Palolem or Agonda. I think there's nowhere to stay, but you can sleep on the beach.
Advise you don't go on (or near) full moon nights because some rave parties happen (we were told this).

my thoughts too aholic! can't wait to see it! looks like a steep drop off into the sea though - not much good for a weak swimmer :-(

i have this huge interest in finding secluded or deserted beaches here.... somehow i wish to do the whole coastline trek(north to south) of goa , but it seems its going to be rather difficult.... would need some advice and company too.

Oh... I´m so lucky to soon be in India again
In three weeks I´ll hopefully be sitting on that beach watching the beautiful scenery, just peace and quiet... ...along with a dozen of India Mikers... ![]()

I have stayed at (Bogmalo Beach)(when the hotel was the Oberoi) 6/10 and at Donna Sylvia beach resort (Cavelassim beach)9/10 but my alltime favourite has got to be colva.(Colva Beach). We stay at a private bungalow (4 times) and cater for ourselves. 9/10
The beach food is cheap, two of us went to breakfast at 07.30 one morning at the local beach restaurant and invited the early morning young beach venders to join us, so 8 of us sat down and they had what they liked. For some I think it was the first breakfast they had ever had, bless them. The whole bill came to a staggering IR 125. sheesh. I spend more at home buying the weeks Toilet Tissue. The beach is safe for all standards of swimmer. If you need nightlife or chinese, it is only a short ride into Margao. Enjoyps. taking a break from Goa this year . Going to Kovalam, Kerala for a change. Happy Days. pps. Emilii. We spent time in in Soumi and Lappi last August from Oulu northwards to the wilderness, where we stayed in a friends log cabin. You are so lucky to have such a beautiful country.
