Should I go to South or North Goa?

Hi folks,
My Dad (64) is coming for a visit in February, and we're planning to visit Goa. He's not looking for all-night raves, but I'm worried that if we go to South Goa there won't be any high-end restaurants/bars, either. (In North Goa, I like Fiesta, Shalom and the like).

What's the dope? Are there any "fancy" restaurants in South Goa? Any posh-ish bars outside of hotels? Or is it just hotel/beach/shacks as far as entertainment?

I wasn't in South Goa that long, and I didn't see any posh pubs or clubs. They were all in the north, is what I noticed. I would of suggested the south for you guys, because it's less touristy and more calm than the north.

Take a conducted tour or by a car. And then back to North Goa. Problem solved ?

Colva and Benaulim have bars and in season live music at times. In april and may when it's holidays in India, it's packed at those places.

There are some wonderful restaurants in the South - River View and Fisherman's Wharf are 2 but there are plenty more. You could also have a meal in the Leela Palace that is well up market.

Well what is your definition of posh - if it very high end then in south goa these are mostly part of large hotels - Taj, Intercon, leela etc... Else beaches like Palolem have a good amount of enjoyment and less hassle compared to N Goa IMHO

reg best places in south goa

South Goa is not so crowded if you were to compare it with north Goa. The beaches are good. Varca beach is really clean and beautiful. Some of the prominent hotels are there in this area..it's still in the developing stages. New constructions are coming out.
There are many restaurants, top and best among all is Martin's beach corner..food and ambience first class. I am from varca, so I know more about South Goa. If you have any questions about south Goa, am at your service.
