Seeing some jungle in Goa
Interested in staying in Goa for a few days in late November. Any recommendations on interesting locations and guest houses/bungalows? Would like to see some jungle and maybe do some scenic day hikes.
Beaches are nice too but not as important. More interested in getting out in nature rather than the party scene. |

The Dudhsagar waterfalls is a great place to get some sunshine and do some hiking. Another great place is the Tiracol fort. Plenty of trails to explore in this area.

There is a Sattari and Mhadei wildlife sanctuary. Not sure if you can hike as this will be Tiger country. If you travel to Goa by train you will see the dense forest region beginning from NewCastle station. I have always been tempted to disembark there and walk till dudhsagar falls. You may want to catch a train that reaches newcastle early morning and disembark if you feel adventurous. For overnight treks leopards will always be something to watch out for in this region with the human habitat pressure building up..
Someone with actual experience of forest treks in Goa might have better advice. Cheers |

I know the guys from both Wildernest and Canopy and both come highly recommended.
Nirmal from Wildernest is one of the great naturalists in Goa who often finds new species! He is also very active on WildGoa (see: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wildgoa).

Yep...you can get down at Castle Rock station on Karnataka side and trek to Dudhsagar falls...but I would recommend that more during monsoons when there is good amount of water in falls...and the forests are at their greenest :-)
