Security tightened in Goa

"Deputy chief minister Dr Wilfred de Souza said some international agencies now scouting in Goa -- whom he didn't name -- had warned him that Goa could be the target of terrorist organisations, and that Bali-like incidents could be replicated here, to mar Goa's booming tourist image. (NT) Denying that there was any particular type of information, deputy inspector general of police Ujwal Mishra said security will be tightened around tourist spots where people from different parts of India and foreign tourists gather. (NT)"

Nahvind Times: "Panaji Oct 31: The deputy inspector general of police (DIG), Mr Ujwal Mishra said that the state police have geared up to combat any eventuality.

Mr Mishra said the police have identified various places, including beaches and security has been tightened in these areas following reports about a possible terrorist attack.

Besides, Mr Mishra said that strict monitoring is being done at all arrival and exit points like railway stations, airport and bus terminus, across the state.

Denying that there was any particular type of information, Mr Mishra said security will be tightened around the tourist spots, where the people from different parts of the country and foreign tourists had gathered."

Any comments? (Smilies aren't working, but if they were, here would have been a shocked or crying smilie )

The US and other consulates have been after the Gov since the Bali attacks to increase security in Goa. I have heard through some sources I know that the UK has a small task force on the ground in Goa this season. The high risk areas IMO are Baga and Anjuna where all the Isrealis are.

I hope the Indian government get their act together before its too late.

About 2-maybe 3years back when I was there the Anjuna wednesday flea market had to be evacuated mid-morning (until the following week) as some crank hoaxer had telephoned with a bomb warning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
