Schools in South Goa
Hi, Can anyone please help a newbie? I am planning on moving to Goa and will be seeking a job in education. I have worked at schools in Mumbai before so as well as my UK qualifications I also have experience of Indian Schools. I willl be based around Margao and wonder if anyone knows of any International or local schools I can contact. Are there any tutoring options to the expat community? Thank you for any help and advice.

As far as I know there is no international school in Margao.

I shall find out and let you know.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL PLANNING
Prakash Nair prepared a community school plan for the City of Vineland in New Jersey as Director of Planning for VITETTA. The plan was developed in consultation with the Superintendent of schools and school board, Mayor, the City Council, 30 community organizations and community residents. The Vineland plan by VITETTA is the first in New Jersey and it takes a comprehensive look at the development of schools in the context of economic, social and cultural development in the inner city.
SCHOOL BUILDING ASSESSMENTS
Prakash directed the United States' largest School Building Evaluation Program. The program surveyed 1,200 school buildings in New York City and created a detailed database that was used to develop a $7.5 billion five-year capital construction program. Prakash published his work on this program in School Planning and Management Magazine available online at the following link:
New York City Building Condition Assessment Survey
PROTOTYPE SCHOOLS PROGRAM - NEW YORK CITY
Prakash served as a Program Manager on this $500 million program for New York City. New York’s prototype schools program was influenced by the fact that there are no “prototypical” sites left in the city and therefore a more innovative solution was needed. The three prototype designs selected featured a series of pre-designed “modules” such as classroom modules, an administration module, a special education module and a student commons module that included the gymnasium, cafeteria and auditorium. These modules could be arranged on site in various configurations so that the prototype could be made to fit on different kinds of sites.
In all over 20 prototype schools were built. The idea was good for the time because of the desperate need for space. Today, however, a different approach to prototyping may be necessary that captures the speed and cost efficiency of prototyping while still allowing each school to be tailored to local context and community and have the flexibility to adapt to future program changes.
OTHER SCHOOL PROJECTS
Over the course of ten years from 1989 to 1999, Prakash Nair served first as Director of Program Development, then as Director of Project Controls & Quality Assurance and finally as Director of Operations for New York City’s School Construction Authority (SCA). In that capacity Prakash participated directly in the development of over 100 new schools and additions, and over 50 major school renovation projects valued at over $10 billion. The following is a small sampling of projects executed during his tenure with the SCA:

INTERNATIONAL AWARD WINNING PROJECTS
The following projects that Prakash worked on as a School Planner and Community Consultation Specialist have won international design awards.
Reece Community School, Devenport, Tasmania, Australia (2003 MacConnell Award Winner)
Completion Date: January 2003
Special Features: Floor plans for this 600-student school demonstrate real flexibility and program integration instead of 20th century "bells and cells". This new school is explicitly designed to accommodate project-based learning and is a real attempt to integrate education with architecture. Imagine having the ability to recreate the classroom environment whenever appropriate to fit any desired instructional strategy – that is indeed the way this school is designed. The innovative ideas embodied in this school design have been incorporated into statewide policies. Click for Details
Pathways World School – New Delhi, India
Completion Date: September 2003
Special Features: The 1,150 students at this school can have one-on-one lessons from peers or teachers in so-called "formal learning zones". Here, they serve as teachers themselves, write read, present, draw and build in the formal learning or classroom zones. The immediate area outside the classroom serves as an extension of the learning experience and is designed to encourage informal student gatherings. There are quiet zones and green zones. Large group gathering spaces include the central tiered amphitheater around a large water body intended for both informal and formal gatherings. The school is designed around the principles of Multiple Intelligences theory. Click for Details
Canning Vale High School – Perth, Western Australia (As Director of Planning for VITETTA)
Completion Date: January 2004
Special Features: This 1,200 student high school was developed from a set of 10 guiding principles that included the nurturing of mind, body and spirit and the personalization of learning experiences. The resulting design is a playful mix of forms representing various learning neighborhoods, which lie along a learning street that leads to the colorful campus center. Click for Details
