Angry Safety Concerns For Women

Sorry to bring this to your attention, but Goa is seemingly becoming more dangerous for women.... It is easy to trust people in Goa with the sun shining and the alcohol flowing, but after the terrible death of Scarlett (who's charge sheet might be coming out today), the Russian tourist who 'fell' from the train, the serial killer with a body count of 16 and many other such instances, it's time to take the same precautions here as you would anywhere else. Here are a couple of the latest headlines...... Be safe!

That's bad news :/ But can't change the fact of Goa being the safest state in India anyways.

What?

It is about the only state in India that regularly reports tourists having problems as rape and murder.

Well said Nick, and also the reference to it being a very small place.

But its all right because it is ALWAYS the tourists fault, just like the present Home Minister telling local women not to wear dupattas (the traditional lightweight scarf) because a serial killer had strangled 16 of them with it so they were at fault, and this only happened in June of this year!

I could wax lyrical about the failings of my particular Indian state. I could go on for hours.

But... risk to tourists? very very low --- and this state is far from small.

Very safe if you are a murderer, rapist, bent copper or corrupt politician. Not so safe if you are one of the numerous travellers and locals prematurely in the ground each year.

A bit of an update... Accoring to reports, they have arrested the man responsible for four of the murders (the bodies found in the river, man women and two children), This was apparently over a theft...

The opnes that started it all off (the burnt bodies) I don't think they've got any further with

http://www.navhindtimes.in/news/goa-...ern-in-3-cases

From the police comments... "He cautioned people, particularly tourists not to move freely during odd hours."

As none of the victims (as far as I am aware) have been tourists, I find this a strange comment, also to try and lighten the mood, does that mean 5, 7 and 9 O'clock (being odd hours)...

I would like to pass on my condolences to all the families who have lost someone during these terrible crimes and truely hope the guilty parties are caught and held responsible for their actions.

It has got massively worse over the years, and the degradation has accelerated over the last three............but be careful saying things like that as there are some on this forum that get very aggressive and rude if you dare to criticize Zimbabwe-on-Sea.

Apparently two Goans have now been arrested in the cases of the burnt bodies, it seems at least one of them knew the young girl who was murdered, but don't know the connections for the other women...
