bro,it seems to me that you need to chill out,such articles are a dime a dozen,and we are certainly not interested in such scurrilous reporting of a rag of a magazine(thnx cap'n)there are no drug cartels being run by the russian mafia in goa,its a euphemism for something more sinister,I guess you can do yourself a favour by actually going there and finding out what really goes on rather than reading up rags.Maligning the russian name should be treated as a criminal offense in India and I seriously hope am not sounding like raj kapoor.

Sam if your going to get bad tempered with someone because YOU don't believe an article you could take a dose of your own medicine and go there and check what your banging on about!!

The Russsian mafia/organised crime is running planty drugs into the state and are fronting brothels!!
So regardless that someone may be a Congress lackey the reporting isn't that far off the mark, and yes it's a problem that needs to be dealt with and quickly!!

Oh and yes I have been and I do know what I'm talking about!!!

If you think that this may be being used for a separate agenda you might have a point but the facts remain the same on the ground!!

To any Russians watching I do know how to differentiate between decent people and thugs!!

I dont have much confidence in the said magzine ,but why should maligning a Russian name be treated as a criminal offense?.In this era of globalisation (not cold war)every country will try to tag along with those countries which help its own progress and being too gung ho about the past relationship between India and Russia is not the way ahead Imho.

If anyone in this Forum denies the fact that illegal activities by Russians in Goa are increasing, he/she better take a second view.
My advice: Walk alone at night at the beach belt from Baga to Candolim or rock the clubs and keep eyes open. You´ll see and you´ll learn for life.

most people are so short-sighted that they dont even realise which way the wind is blowing,sure the west is the best right now for our techies from bangalore,but they dont know where the future is headed for.I am not the 1 who is all gung-ho about indo-russian relations,its the people in the govt,and they are no bums.In 20 years from now russia will be more monstrous than its present size,and that too economically,lets see ur attitudes than,am not saying the westphalian powers are gonna go down hill,but they sure will have a major head-ache with a communist people's republic somewhere to the east of india,which is diametrically opposite to their ideology.Russia whereas has already embraced democracy and is allied with the west and poses no threat to anybody.I can see the techies of bangalore in vladivostok in a few years from now.

have spent a month there for the past three years,didnt come across anything unusual,but yes I was with friends and not alone,although I dont see the point.

If Russians do in fact acquire a negative reputation in goa, at least it might help to make the Israelis to feel more welcome.

Well, the point is to stroll around alone on the beach at 2:00 a.m. and to come across a Russian late night party in a shack, where no more barriers or frontiers are kept up. And be sure, you´ll have a problem to not recognize the bouncer type of guys with their sunglasses on in the middle of the night and with half naked, drunken and willingless girls as obvious trophys by their side. Next will be that you`ll find yourself in a tricky situation, when you are not only offered some good old Whiskey, but along with that are literally compelled to sit down and enjoy yourself and your luck to have met them with some Coca or Smack. Of course you´ll refuse the offer and take a sip of your drink, but you´ll still not found a way to get rid of this girl eating up your ear and all the guys are looking at you, well, you are on the watch, no question, and you´re feeling from deep inside that you are at the wrong place at the wrong time. How you´ll get out? – With a little help from your mobile phone. Read a faked message and do make a fake call. Explain where you are roughly and do that talking loud enough, so anybody present will listen. Then say sorry to the crowd and explain that you have to leave, because your friends are waiting to pick you up for a secret rave at Anjuna. Thank for the nice hospitality and get the fuck out of there.

This story happened to me on January 23rd 2006, thus exactly one year ago. Afterwards I asked a local guy who´s a friend of mine since 1995, how a thing like this could have ever taken place in Goa. He answered that there is a slightly change going on in Goa and that things would run out of control in some matters. But he insured me that at no time there would would have been any danger for me. Really soothing.

As to the clubs: Go there and take your share, but better listen and look what´s going on behind the open scenary. If you have only a little curiosity yourself, you´ll see and understand
all the actions going on within one night. The phone calls, the people come and go, obvious conferences in the middle of the party crowd, wild confrontations between Russians late at night; all this action is too explicit for not taken as serious. Beaten up girlies, intimidated boys, cocky bastards and drugs and money unlimited – it has the substance of a classical buyout. But of course, like anyone here in this forum I can´t come up with hard evidence. Blame me. Sorry, I can´t change it.

My conclusion: Help Goa and Goa will help you.
