The article appears to me to be making unprovable assumptions which have the potential to taint the public's view of the entire Russian community
Does running a fair percentage of drugs into Goa count and organised brothals!! With ex Russian army as bouncers!!

As to reputations, well Russians like any country have their good and bad. It's usually the bad that defines you reputation unfortunately. Ask the French, British and Israeli contingents in Goa!!

If they've done that, they can be arrested.

And since it is by by reputation that groups are defined, it's not a bad idea to try and defend the groups that are feeling the fallout from the behavior of a few, no?

True. But, apparently a large portion of the wealth and businesses in Russia are controlled mafia. If I had to guess whether it was the legitimate businesses or the mafia who are investing in Goa, my guess would have to be the Mafia.

Why? There does not seem to be enough incentive for legitimate businesses to buy large tracts of lands in Goa/India unless they plan to build a call/BPO center and take advantage of the low labor costs.

When I visited the Home Dept. last March, my Goan friend was told by a top official that they were very worried by the Russian criminal activities in North Goa........and didn't know what to do. The buying of huge tracts of land (illegally I might add) brought attention generally to the foreign impact on property prices.

sanjay you have obviously taken the outlook mag a bit too seriously,I wont be surprised if the article was published with the help of a few local goans who feel threatened that their land is bieng snatched away from them, hence they started the red-herring

sam12, like I said earlier, that magazine is not a rag.
Is there any reason for assuming that the article is a plant?

Hey, I just posted the link to start a discussion on the subject.
Have your say.
Should we not take a subject like this seriously?
Maybe being an ostrich is more comfortable in this harsh world populated with mafia goons and their molls on the beaches!
Chill out man!
There are two sides to every coin!

Italics mine.

Well, if the law is being broken, there is only one thing to do, isnt it? Why is he helpless?

Whatever the quality of the magazine, this really does not seem a very well written article to me.

Nor is it new news anyway, I'm sure it has been touched on in the Goa property threads.

Sanjay, before you take to name-calling (at least you didn't cut&paste that. Wait, maybe I'd better google for it to make sure...) let me remind you for the umpteenth time that IndiaMike is primarily for original comment and personal experience.

So please think twice before you cut-and-paste the next internet snippet that catches your eye in the hope of starting a discussion.

Even better: don't do it at all.
