Hi Tracy and welcome to Indiamike.com
I don't often say this, you must buy a guidebook, there are some very good guidebooks on Goa, it will be money very well spent and would give you a much more enjoyable holiday.
Click on 'search' in the top right of this page and enter 'Bogmalo', I'm sure I found some water sports in that area for a friend a while ago.
Most beach/tourists restaurants are variable at best, try to get away from the tourist spots for the best and cheapest food, Madgaon has some great places, Panjim even more wonderful places (though Panjim is probably too far away).
If you like seafood, try to learn a little about it, for example, how to tell the freshness of the fish, some beach restaurants put the fish on display for a few days in a row, there is a chance of it going off.

Lovely food in Goa!!
Goa offers some of the best multi cuisine eating anywhere in India from fresh sea food to pizza to great south and north Indian food.
I agree with steven on the fresh fish thing, also try to pick a restaurant that is consistantly busy this means that hopefully won't hang on to seafood or other ingredient too long.
Your average beach restaurant really doesn't show a huge profit so throwing fish away because it's off isn't always the way it's done so be a wee bit careful where and what you eat!!
I can only tell you about Palolem Agonda and Margao but in these places the food is excellent with a huge choice of foods from all over.
In Palolem!!
You'll even get a decent bottle of Hardys wine for around $ 8
Happy Traveling

I'm not sure where you're staying - but if you're in the North (Calangute/Candolim) I recommend the following...
Kebabs & Curries... the best in North Goa! We're going back in Jan '05 and can't wait!
KJ's Inferno... fantastic! Lovely tandoori chicken!
Claudina's Shack on the beach - brill! They have buffet nights - mega cheap and mega tasty!
Have Fun

I can recommend The Plantain Leaf restaurant in Calangute. It's upstairs on the main street which runs from the beach to the roundabout.
All their food is vegetarian, there's a very wide choice of dishes, and their puri bread is just fantastic.
Waves is good too, but a bit more expensive and a bit further out of town.

The best food is to be found in Panjim.
Take a taxi at night for about 300 rps and make the driver wait and to take you home.
The Goenchen - posh chinese very swanky
Moti Mahal - extremley good north Indian food superb staff very friendly, I think that this place is one of the best.
Shere-e-Punjab , but go to the first floor one above Hotel Aroma.
Delhi Darbur - good food but full of western tourists, very smarmy waiters expecting large tips and always get them.
Panjim is much better for food than staying in your resort and well worth the effort of taking a taxi, and you can always fall asleep in the cab on the way home.
All the above places are probably the same price as local restaraunts but the food is far nicer.
Happy eating.

Beach Shacks
Bosco's has to be the most expensive shack on the beach and there is better food to be found in many of the others.
Try any of the veggies restaurants in Panjim - go for lunch whilst you are there shopping. The choice of food is brilliant and you hardly notice there is no meat on the plate if you are not a veggie and there will be a nice suprise when the bill comes, far cheaper than the "tourist" areas. Try Masala Dosa - a large pancake type food with a spicy potato filling, comes with a coconut chutney and a lentil gravy.
If you go to Calangute then don't forget the samosas in the "dairy shop" which is on the same side of the road as the market but just before it, going from beach side. At about 4.30p.m. they bring out the most brilliant samosas which they serve with spicy red and green sauce - many is the time we eat them in the street because we can't wait until we get home to eat them.
You will enjoy the food in Goa whether it is a street stall or a 5* hotel but heed the warnings given by Steve and Cyberhippie with regards to eating where there are plenty of other people - although this is no guarantee but does help.

Thanks for the heads-up about the samosas, I'll definitely look out for those.
PS. That might be the same shop where I got a huge bag of some sort of spicy sev mix and a bunch of condensed milk sweets last year.
