Depends on your taste - sorry!. Based on the past 15 years of staying in the Colva area I would suggest -

Mickeys [on main street] - if you like a good choice that includes some continental and Chinese dishes. Certainly not an intimate atmosphere, more of a production line but the foods ok.

Seal Pearl [side road towards 'Bollywood' hotel] - not a patch on it's glory days and this is reflected in the ease with which one can get a table these days. Still some good cheap seafood choices -doma fish, tuna etc. Spot the odd frog in the garden if the cats have not eaten them all.

Goodmans [on mainstreet] friendly place.Produces some very acceptable [north] indian food. Non-indian can be a bit hit or miss but ok if the tummy is in need of some respite.Cheap drinks. Avoid karaoke night when the expat Brits take over.

Beach shacks -Dominicks, Falcon etc most offer similar menus and standards and the line nearest the beach entrance all have tandoors. Beware the fish selection tray if you are on a limited budget and be sure to ask 'How Much?'or you will end up with a huge expensive fish.

I believe the veg restaurant just past the Williams Resort going away from the beach is recommended by some but have not tried it yet.

If you walk southwards [left] down the beach for about 1km you will find the CRoque which is a nice quiet location set back from the beach under palm trees. Good cheap food and drinks, friendly people, popular with Dutch and Germans. Tends to close early evening as nobody bothers to walk that far.

Take an auto rickshaw [about 70 to 80-rps] to Martins Corner in Betalbatim for a civilized experience with some more authentic Goan dishes or to Majorda that has reasonable places.

Cajis Place is a very well recommended restaurant and bar near to Oceanique Resort, a five minute walk along the beach road towards Bollywood. Also nearby is Lucky Star.

As for day trips, its a long time since I've done any! But people seem to enjoy the spice farm. Old Goa is very nice, and there's a place called 'big foot' which has a strange tradition attached to it! Ask around when you arrive, get to know a decent taxi driver and he will show you the sights for a reasonable price for a whole day.
