I think that most restaurants in the Candolim area are over priced for the service they provide. The main clientele being English,as i am,do not have very high expectations of what "good"
food is,consequently,we are most often considered as not very fussy about what we eat. My recommendation for an eatery is Plantain leaf in Calangute.
Hope you find a good one....

Well, im staying every time when im visiting Goa in Candolim!
I can recommend you CEcilias Restaurant and of course Chris' Stone house. These both paralell to each other.
Just ask For Stone House and the most people will know it, and there ouy find also Cecilias Restaurant.

Greets,
Manuel

Thanks for the above info, yes we do use these restaurants, but unfortunately they are not open out of season!

Cecilias Restaurant will open at the begining of november. I think Stone House will also open his doors at this time.

manuel

Hi Kinrara,

I do agree with Martinez. In Calangute you can find some really good places to eat out and I´ve bee to the Plantain Leaf several times last year - excellent food and great staff. It was suggested by a local friend of mine, Tanaji, who owns the Sri Sai Shop at the roundabout since ages. If you find the time, ask him for more places and I´m sure he´ll help you out.

Greetings, York

I stayed in Goa in the monsoon 2 seasons ago. The place is deserted nothing is open and hardly anything open . I didn't even like driving through it to go to Panjim .
Candolium is really only open in the tourist season and if you rent a apartment in the monsoon i wouldn't pay much for it .And make sure it has good locks as well !
Calangute is more alive in the monsoon.

Not true.

There is the Old Mango Tree, a bit further from Bob's Inn on the same side of the road. The Old Mango Tree looks like a shack but has excellent food, especially their fish is fabulous. They make fries out of real potatoes and pretty good pancakes too. It all takes forever and you may have to suffer the chatting of some of the long term foreigners who drink all but Honey Bee but it is worth it. Prices are pretty decent too, a three course meal for two including a couple of beers will be Rs.600. Ask for Vishal, the owner and you can be sure you will be taken care of. Note, that he tends to be there during dinner rather than lunch, which has some effect, not so much on the quality but on the speed which is already very slow when he is there. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

If you want to splash you can go to La Fenice, an Italian restaurant, a little further from the Old Mango Tree, on the other side of the road, opposite the 'Ice Factory'. The setting is very nice/romantic, the welcome very italian and hospitable, the food all right.(about Rs.2000 for two including a bottle of wine). They are open seven days a week but only in the evening.

A little further down the same lane as La Fenice, there is a really nice bookshop called Literati. They serve you coffee or tea while browsing new or second hand books and they have really comfy sofa's and a nice little garden.

There is the Old Mango Tree I have been there twice and it was much too spicy for me and very dark inside.I wouldnt have said its in Candlium either, if its the one i am thinking of its on the road to Candoilum from Calangute its on the left going to Candolium.
And Candolium in the monsoon is a ghost town.I been there seen it and drove straight through it .No one walking about only the buses are traveling through it.

Must be a different place because the Old Mango Tree is not dark inside, actually it is rather bright.

Also, I don't find Calungute is so bad, many of the shops used by locals remain open, as does the market.

Perhaps it is different for me as I live here.

Calangute is great in the monsoon its Candolium i was on about. Mainly the part of the road where Highland beach resort is . From the huge supermarket to all the way to the turning to Panjim its deserted in monsoon ,or it was when i spent July - Jan in Goa.Never again i would rather watch paint dry than stay another monsoon.
If you are from the UK and you live there all year round you deserve a medal.Well done
