| Prescription glasses I've bought prescription glasses in Delhi and Mumbai and they are great. The optmetrists have stylish frames and use Japanese technology for the lenses. My eye tests have always been free with the purchase of glasses; one time when I realized that I wouldn't have enough time for delivery (can take up to 3 days), the test cost 90 rupees. Frames are surprisingly reasonable. Give them a try -- you will be pleasantly surprised.

| Just one thing to note: you are likely, when getting a free prescription at a shop, to only get the prescription, not a full eye-health checkup, which you will get in UK. This might not be a problem, but if you suffer from any of those things that require regular eye checks for more than just specs, it could be serious. Of course, there are eye surgeons/docs who will give you a full inspection. |

| Maha Guru Member | I have just bought 2 pairs of prescription glasses in Delhi for Rs 2800 (for both pairs), took 6 hours to make them. I have also in the past bought designer type glasses in Goa for less than Rs 4000. |

| Thank you all. I shall get an eye test here and take the prescription with me. I assume that the prescription will be understood in india , in other words the terms used on the print out i get from the optician are the same. alan |

| Science is international ![]() Happy Shopping! While you are getting your prescription, check out the prices of what you like and make a note. Whilst prices are probably generally lower in India (a few years back I was able to make a direct comparison on some fancy titanium frames: 30% cheaper in India) something like a BOGOFfer* at one of the national chains might make the UK price more attractive. *Buy One Get One Free offer |

I have had all my specs (high prescription/reactolight) made in Goa for the last 15 years plus but this is definitely cheaper for me! | |

| My last BOGOF British frames, though, were not as good quality as I would have got low-price stuff in India. My current frames, by the way ---not lenses, which were reused from a broken frame--- cost me Rs500. I don't believe they will last long, but hey, £7? |
