Znojmo I see you twice (a Czech rhyme), I will go to see Himalayas so I am not sure how long it will last to reach a doctor after a beast bites me.

We have virtually no rabies. Hence, the reason for charging ungodly prices.

Have a look here at the USA stats, and then look at Europe and UK (no we are not part of Europe)............virtually no rabies?

I knew it was wildlife-orientated which generated the "stay out of the woods" comment

You could consider starting the course of THREE pre-exposure after you arrive in India. The cost here are about INR 400 per jab (about US$8, absurdly expensive for India!).

The jabs are available at most pharmacies in big cities. You can buy it there, make sure it comes from the fridge (not freezer) and walk into any doctor or clinic and ask them to administer it.

It is not painful, just a little prick in your upper arm. Some people, including me, get a bit feverish the next day for the first jab but are fine with the next two.
The time will come when men will look upon the murder of animals as they look upon the murder of men.

Okay, you're right. We have rabies. Mostly in the East. But it can be found other places if you are around racoons a lot. At least, that's what I think I learned. Whatever, it's still too expensive to get the pre-shots here.

Q: how many days apart do the pre-exposure 3 shots need to be taken?

Thanks all!

`Not dissing your request, just a gentle reminder that at some point you should consult a real doctor. Any faith I had in such advice I might give was dashed by my 5 year old telling a friend, don't ask any medical questions he isn't a real doctor..

Yes, but it doesn't take a real doctor to know the dosage intervals. In fact, I bet Google is an expert

Sorry, I'd tell, having had it, but I don't remember. The thing is, it is not evenly spaced.

Thank you for this information. Seeing a "doctor" in the US costs money even if you have insurance, even just to ask a question.

Thus, I often seek medical advice elsewhere unless it's something I know I need to see a doctor for, or it's needs immediate attention.

Fair point and sometimes the doctors don't know all the obscure details. On a climbing forum I mentioned an odd experience I had in Switzerland. A correspondent immediately diagnosed it correctly as Raynaud's. Once I knew the namw I could "direct" the docs..
