Hi Stevbenaulim -is it possible to pop off to visit a place called Hampi from gokarna or does it have to be done in a different way ?.Maybe should stay in a more handy place train wise to go to Hampi.

Hampi is quite far from Gokarna. From Margao you can go to Hampi by train or bus.

Thanks Goancanuck and Tomato soup -been a great help.I think maybe it's better I stay at Margao as you say it's only 2hrs by train to visit Gokarna-and Hampi will be more accessible from Margao.(I hope it's nice in Margao)

Benaulim is your best bet, full of guest houses, i live in Benaulim.
7KMs from Margao, 7 RP on the bus or 80 RP on a rickshaw.
In Benaulim village try Rosarios guest house, about 300 RP a night, cheap, basic, cleanish.
Plenty of bars and restaurants near by.

diantorre, if i can be of any help, regarding Benaulim etc, just ask, lived there a long time, so know most things, but not all.
Depending on your budget, accomodation for everyone.
Benaulim is nice.
