Please help me plan my itinerary for Goa!

Hi All.
I will be in Goa the last week of May 2007 for four or five days. Can someone please recommend the best way to get there from Kerala (mode of transportation)for cheap? Where is recommended to stay for under $100 USD a night? What things I should see and do? And any good eating places or night life in the area or near the hotel recommended?

My plan so far is only to stop through for four or five days between Kerala and Mumbai. I could really use help planning these days with any comments welcome and appreciated!!

Hi,

Goa in May is pretty quiet, just about everything has or is shutting down - it's also quite sticky but if you are going for just four/ five days you could fly from Kochin or Trivandrum. Otherwise a train should take around 16-18 hours.
As for good places to stay with a budget of around $100 you shouldn't have any problem - especially as a lot of the budget places will be closed. Depends where you want to stay but even the good international hotels will give you a big discount in May. You could try Marinha Dourada near Baga river - it's central and was decent value when I stayed there, every other time I have done it on the cheap.

For ease of access (and because I know it well) try getting off at Canacona station for Palolem beach. Things will have quietened down by then but I'm sure there will still be quite a few people around and plenty of Bars and restaurants still trading, enough to keep you happy anyway!!
The sea may be a bit rough at this time of year but I guess that goes for all Goa.

There are several other beaches in the area to explore, as well as the Western Ghats and Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary.

This daily train leaves from several handy stops in Kerala and gets into Canacona around 5.00am

The last week of May is going to be very hot. Alot of restaurants will be closed or dimantled. Though there are always ones open year round. Most foreigners will have left, but there's quite alot of Indians still around as April and May are holidaytime. I was in Colva at the end of May onetime and there must have been 10,000 or more Indian tourists on the beach around sunset time. Your sure to find some kind of nightlife then at Colva or Benaulim. There's live music in some places there on weekends.

$100 is alot of money. No problem finding a very nice room for that price. I spent 1 night in Colva for some shopping at the end of my trip, and paid $10 for a nice big room with a/c and t.v. 3 1/2 years ago.

For $100 you'll get the whole hotel.
