Pay As You Go Sim/Phone cards

Hi All
Can't wait Goa in November
Just wondering if anyone can recomend local sim cards?
Been told they are quite reasonable even one of the best ways to phone home
What's the data side like, not expexting 3G but iphone uses google maps

Is it possible to buy & get the sim cards sent to the UK just to see if the phone accepts them?

Thanking you all in anticipation

Lee

Just try another sim card in your mobile to see it it works on a different network if it does you can put in a Indian sim if it doesnt work get your mobile unlocked in your local market for about £5
You dont need to get a sim sent home and i dont think you would be able to anyway.
I use Airtel .
Dont know about data side as never use it only seem to use the mobile for texts

That is not possible. You have to provide a copy of your passport when you buy a SIM card in India. Airtel and Vodafone sim cards will work with your Iphone.

Hi

Many thanks for the replies, sorry I haven't posted a thank you sooner

Didn't expect to have to produce a passport for a PAYG sim card, and the reason I wanted to try first is the 3G iPhone is sim locked to O2 here in the UK.

I have bought an adapter that is supposed to "unlock" the phone and I have tested this on a UK Vodafone sim card. So fingers crossed hopefully it will work in GOA

Once again thank you for your posts, I will be in Madgaon Vodafone shop when it opens on Sat 8th Nov passport in hand

NC35 - a slight word of warning with unlocking your I-phone...

By unlockign your i-phone you void your warranty (not a big issue but worth pointing out) but the main problem is that Apple do everything they can to stop this happening - generally you can unlock your iphone and then use it with your current verson of I-Tunes but if you update I-Tunes and they have "fixed" your method of unlocking, your i-phone will stop working and turn into a brick.

I might have misinterpreted your post as the adaptopr might actually be fooling the i-phone into thinking the Vodaphone sim card is an o2 one but be careful as I know people who have ended up with i-phones being expensive paperweights!
