Patnem vs Agonda
Hello there
I am there in goa from the 5th of march till the 9th. Ill be there with my wife looking for some peace and quiet, away from the crowds and noise ..idea is to sleep, swim, laze around ,read, eat some great goan fish curry and do nothing else. Initially I thought Palolem would be good but have given up on that after reading about the mess it is today. So the choice is between Patnem and Agonda. HAs anybody stayed at Home in Patnem ? Would that be a better choice than the shacks in Agonda ? And yes a clean toilet is a must. Would be very thankful if any of you help me with this. |

Both are great, but I think Agonda is better for peace and quiet. It's a long 3 km. beach with lots of room to find your own spot. Patnem on the other hand is a short, maybe 1 km. beach thats great, but there's less space to chill out. I haven't been there in 4 years, so ... But like the above post says Agonda's discovered now. But I still can't think it's discovered to the point of it's ruined like Palolem. And March should have less people.

Agonda is my vote
We loved Agonda. We too were searching for peace, quiet and a nice beach. Agonda was quiet, uncrowded, and friendly. The only other beach in Goa I can compare it to is Anjuna and Agonda wins hands down.

Thanks all of you. Also how does one travel between patnem and agonda? Does the place have public transport? Local buses, etc.
I have read about bikes on rent but dont want to do that. Are taxis available? |

Taxis
Taxis are quite easy to hire but the prices in Goa are more expensive since many tourists do choose to rent scooters or motorbikes. Don't worry about transport. There's always somebody that can get you where you want to go for a price of course.

Thank you for all the information. This has made things wasier for me. I have decided to spend three days at "Home" in Patnem and then move to Agonda for two days. While I have managed to book a room at Home in patnem ( 1100 rupees for room closest to the beach) I havent had much success with Agonda. The pictures at agondabeach.com looked nice. But the mahnamahnas havent replied to my email . The site does not have a telephone number. Does anyone here have a number to contact them? Or any better place you would recommend at Agonda for upto 1000 rupees.
And a question on the food. Do Patnem, Palolem Agonda have restaurants that cook goan food the indian way? Ive heard that most restaurants customise their food for the british palate considering the hordes of british tourists who throng the place...I ve heard a lot of nice things about authentic goan food and would be bloody dissapointed if they all tasted london 'curry place'. |

Patnem or Agonda?
Hi Friends,
Me n wife are planning to visit Palolem for a couple of days. However, am not getting Ciaran's as its full. Was thinking of staying at Patnem or Agonda. From what I hear, it seems Patnem is just a walk down to Palolem. How far is Agonda? Is it connected? If not, what stay suggestions for Patnem or Palolem in the same bracket as Ciaran's? Thanks, Zany. |

Yes Patnem is maybe 2 km. from Palolem. You can walk there in maybe 45 minutes. Or theres a bus that goes between them once in a while. Agonda on the other hand is far from Palolem. You must either rent a moped or there is a bus. But the bus isn't too frequent. Or you can of course get a rickshaw there. Here's a site with places to stay in Patnem and Palolem and Agonda, www.palolem-beach.com |

Both Patnem and Agonda are very much discovered and it wonŽt be too long now until Agonda has caught up with Palolem.
Plenty taxis and rickshaws between Agonda and Palolem and the bus service is getting better too.. I wrote a bit about the relative ambience of all these beaches, youŽll find it HERE |

If you walk by road, it's around 45 minutes from beach to beach. Or longer if you walk to the north road to Palolem. There is a trail through the jungle that is shorter and faster. But it's for sure longer than 15 minutes. Don't remember exactly how long it takes, maybe 30 minutes. I only walked it once as I always rode between the 2 on my cycle. And it also depends on where in Patnem are you starting your walk and where in Palolem are you walking to. It can take maybe 20 minutes or more just to walk from one end of Palolem to the other.

I don't think the people of Agonda would put up with it becoming ruined like Palolem. They already kicked out years ago the people that were building a 5 star hotel there. I pray it doesn't become Palolem. ![]() |
