ok, so the owners banged the door and said we had to leave as around 18 people had turned up and they wanted all the 6 rooms in that house....

Well, anyway, we had met an Irish couple the night before in Tullees (run by Manish) and had become friends over some drinks and singing on the karaoke.. so we ran into them and they told us about D'Mellos hotel on the market road (just 1 minute from the beach) opposite 'Cuba'bar (near Smugglers Inn). We got it for 400rs a night, with cable TV and hot water and balcony overlooking the market. Great room. The owners especially Paresh was very helpful.

We checked out -
Dropadi restaurant on the beach- great food!!! Professional staff who wont interact more than necessary with customers - good in a way if you just want to be left alone by them.

Tullees (located next to Casa Fiesta and on the start of the lane leading to "Blue Planet Health Cafe") is good too, it was opened in Dec 2007 so they need some time to grow and attract customers. But Manish and his wife Swati are very friendly and make you feel at home. They also have Karaoke which is an added bonus, a Pool table and a big screen TV where we watched the winning match today (2nd Mar) between India and Australia. Sachin with his century..

Cocktail & Dreams is another beach pub (about 2 restaurants from Dropadi) which is open 24hrs - the other place is Cafe del Mar - but we found it rather noisy/loud. And they have cleaner loos too. Also big TV to watch... great fun when there are matches going on. The staff is very friendly (especially Krishna & Joy who do the night shift) and offer you tips on the menu there and are friendly but not in an intrusive way.

Alpha bar (run by Armando) is right at the the south end of Palolem Beach, behind 'Peoples' bar. An excellent pub where there are bands performing every other day. Nice place to hang out, I even got to sing a couple of songs with a musician who was happy to jam with anybody who wanted to sing....

Me and hubby were supposed to leave today (2nd Mar) but have decided to stay another day as we love this place. We plan to come back here soon with our close friends, stay around Palolem or Patnem (which we havent visited this time.... next time.

Yes, it is the album cover of Dark Side of the Moon, I knew I was getting confused there. Thanks GxMx, it is true that Alan Parson have programmed/engineered that album.

your welcome Sluggy! i have played that album many times over in my younger days the coverart work for the Floyd album is by Hipgnosis who have actually also done artwork for Alan Parsons albums as well among others!

getting back to Palolem, did you check out the shack right after Dropadi's? i think Sameers, more low key,cheaper and the food and service is excellent!if you have time check them out!have a great time! cheers

Well, we were there in Palolem on our honeymoon and we were not planning on staying for more than a couple of days but finally we ended up staying for six days (had to leave since I had to go back to work soon!!!). The food is pretty expensive except for the tea which is cheaper than even Mumbai for the large glass of mint or ginger tea!!!

Got back from Goa, reached at 8am. Just read your post as I didnt go to any internet place after my last post.

No we didnt check Sameer. We did see it on our way to Dropadi, but didn't feel like going in, I think it was because it was named Sameer (ooops, whats in a name and all that went for a toss!!), Sameer just sounded mundane compared to - Big Bamboo, Cocktails & Dreams, People, Kates, Waves etc etc. Next time we will drop in there!

Right now I am just trying to convince myself that I did indeed have a long 11 day trip in Goa, because now that we are back home, it feels like the Goa trip was just a figment of my imagination.

I cant wait to get back there! It was a swell time!

I was in Goa for Christmas, and then again in the first week of Feb. Stayed at Palolem both times, Chattai beach huts the first time, and Bridge & Tunnel the second time. B&T was very well located and the rates were reasonable too (600 per night for a hut).

Bridges & Tunnels, yes we saw the place from a distance.... it is close to the Dancing Shiva (which we came across when we were looking for Alpha Bar and happened to overwalk as we missed Peoples Bar - where we were supposed to enter to reach Alpha Bar behind).

Anyway, so we saw the Dancing Shiva on the left and on the right was this quaint lit up wooden bridge from the beach to this small hillock kind of island (I guess it was Neptune Point). It looked inviting, mysterious and just a wee bit eerie to me... We did feel tempted to check it out, but we wanted to watch the Electric Monkees * Suzie Headlock from Ireland perfoming at Alpha - they were simply amazing. Irish Folk songs and many songs had this hippy/old psychedelic kind of feel.

I wouldnt suggest beach huts, cos they have about 1-2 loos which are used by the lodgers as well as people who drop in to eat at the restaurant/bar - very very stinky and sometimes dirty - some drunk/high jerk eventually forgets to use the flush . . ... there goes your appetite. I preferred staying in a room with attached bath (between 300-400 rs when we were there - Feb22 - 4 Mar)

The cottages we rented at Bridge & Tunnel had attached loos and (reasonably) clean ones. We also stayed at the opposite end of Palolem beach for a day (Don't remember the name of the place now but it was close to Dropadi). Again attached loos, around the same rate.

Is B&T very close to Patnem beach (as B&T is at the South end of Palolem). We didnt go to Patnem this time, but plan to check it on our next trip.

I heard Patnem is better than Palolem as it is less crowded. We liked Palolem due to being less crowded, so I am sure Patnem would be better.... however... going by current affairs, it would be a bit scary if the place was too secluded...

does patnem also have lots of beach restaurants next to each other - like the whole stretch of Palolem beach - where You can walk all you want and if tired just hop into one of the restaurants, sit on the comfy cane armchair and guzzle a drink while watching the waves and the horizon. sigh.... goa
