Party scene
I'm confused! Basically, what is the best beach for nightlife? We don't really want a Cost Del Sol atmosphere but would like some good clubs and bars to go to in the evening. I heard Palolem was good for this, but then i read North Goa is the centre of the party scene. Any advice?
thanks |

I've travelled to a fair bit of pubs and clubs in the whole week I was in Goa. I only spent one night in Palolem, so I can't really give any advice there, but yes, I agree the north is more youthful and trendy. Some of the best places are Club Cubana, which is maximum Rs. 900 entry, but all the drinks at the place are for free, beers, spirits, pre-mixed drinks such as Bacardi Breezers, and I'm not too sure about wine. Didn't see it behind the bar, or anybody drinking it. You have to pay for Red Bull's though at the bar. It was the best nightclub I've been to in India. The place is basically a mansion on a hill, with a swimming pool you are allowed to swim in, few levels to hang around, and a part of the mansion acts as a two-storey dance floor. A section of it "women only". Other recommended places in and around Baga/Calangute is like, Tito's, which is decent, nothing special, and Mambo's, which has pretty expensive drinks, plus a Rs. 300 entry fee. There was this great little Irish pub full of Brits next door to my hotel in Calangute named Molly Malone's. Monday night trivia at 9:30pm is a must there! But the crowd is a bit aged.

Thanks for the heads up. If we did stay in Palolem, it's easy to get to these northern bars and clubs for the night to party, and then get a taxi back early morning (4 or 5ish?), or should we stay in the north?

The party scene isn't really one of Palolems attractions, As others have said the north is probably better. However there might be the odd sneaky party somewhere around!!
When are you going to Goa? |

i have spent time in both palolem and arambol and i would definately suggest the latter if you are after a bit of nightlife.
Palolem, though pretty, is not the place for parties and it is a fair old drive up to anjuna/vagator from there. On the other hand, i personally would never want to stay in anjuna or vagator as they are too much of a scene for me. Arambol is a good halfway house in my opinion. It's pretty laid back, has a few of its own good little bars/'clubs', is 45mins by scooter from vagator if you want something a bit more full-on, and has some of the best and most varied restaurants around. Wherever you decide on, i hope you have a great time ![]() |

At the right time of year kidsan, Palolem is pretty good from a live music point of view, with open podiums at several places on Friday Saturday and Sunday. Seen some great musicians over the years.
You're right though but for a brief burst of action a couple of years back, not much in the way of parties, IMHO that's a good thing! |

From Palolem to Vagator is a very long drive and you will find it very difficult to get a taxi to take you back at 4am in the morning. It will also cost you quite a bit. My advice is to stay in Anjuna.

ps have you been to patnem lately? is it still palolem's peaceful 'relative'? |

Patnem continues to grow and will soon catch up with Palolem I feel. The one hope for the beach is that there isn't too much land to build on!
The places to be are Alpha Bar, Sun and Moon and various other ad hoc "jams" |

I rode from Baga to Palolem, in the day time, and it took me ages, plus I got lost a few times, even though it is just one highway. Lol. Stay one or two nights in Palolem for its beauty, and then waste your money in the north. Sure is worth it.
