Palolem v Arambol In October
Hi,
I have read many, many threads now on Goa - and everyone keeps contradicting each other... I will be in Goa first week of October - i am a single traveller, looking for somewhere with a good chilled vibe, where there are people to meet (not families etc), few drinks at night but no raving required.... From my investigation it seems like Palolem & Arambol are the 2 most suitable places to my needs.. Arambol - some people say its chilled, others full on?!? what the take? Is the the whole place dirty, or only the beach?? Palolem - some say its a chilled backpackers place, others a family place, other a party place - all rather confusing... Is there a more chilled backpacker beach south of Palolem? Patunam? Any help, or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

There both good, but Palolem, though more touristic, is the most pretty beach in Goa. But the beginning of Oct. should not be crowded in both places. I personally prefer the south, so Palolem would be my choice at THAT time. Other times I personally abhore Palolem because of the tourism. Patnem, like you mentioned is just south of there and you can walk to Palolem if you like and it's much quieter, especially in Oct.

Arambol will be pretty quiet at that time - it doesn't start to get busy until the end of Oct/early Nov. Palolem, on the other hand, seems to be party central from September, even with hardly anything open! (I was there a few years ago, along with a good 50 other backpackers!)
You might need an umbrella too, as the monsoon may still be hanging around start Oct. Personally speaking, Arambol is far more chilled, but there are loads of other chilled beautiful beaches - hire a moped and do some exploring... ![]() |

when i was last in goa (2 or 3 years ago) the food was way better in arambol than palolem. A big range of really deliscious restaurants including the double dutch, a french vegan place, fantastic israeli food, great indian etc etc. Whereas i was always a bit disapointed in palolem (apart from the great german bakeries salads)
That said, palolem is definately prettier and more compact and if its all too much then patnem beach is a more chilled option only 15 mins walk away. Enjoy... |
