He quoted me 2500rs per person per night.... i'm sure the place is beautiful but it doesn't warrant these prices! I have had the opportunity to travel around the world and throghout Asia incl. over xmas so as an 'upscale' tourist I know what prices should and should not be...
I have in fact managed to book the Oceanic Hotel for a respectable 2000rs per night, with a 2000rs deposit ![]() |

Many others followed his lead, charging 1800rps plus and are also still pulling in the punters?? It's not for us tourists to set the prices or even put down prices not agreeable to us, just walk on by, is all you can reasonably do if the prices aren't agreeable! I say this about all of the recent price hikes in India due to increased foriegn tourism! Not just because John's a friend of mine! (I actually said he'd never get away with the price rise when he talked about it, guess who was wrong) |

I'm would still find this very hard to believe that all punters staying at the camp during this period will be paying as much as 2500Rps 'per person' per night, especially if it is a backpaker haven...

Palolem has a all kinds of tourists not just backpackers, they stay in the many many cheaper options.
Still there are many these days in India that can easily afford these prices, two week tourists are so impressed with how cheap food and beer is to worry too much about the price of accomodation! Edit I see that the prices for December have gone up again (sorry missed that) still it would seem John is confident in getting these prices through December otherwise he wouldn't be trying! He's a sharp operator and knows what he is doing! |

This is my point, the price he told me was '2500RPS Per Person, Per night' not per hut!

Sorry crossed posts after I changed my edit, yep I have already said it's expensive and in my opinion probably not worth it but there's a market there and John is trying to milk it for all it's worth I say good luck to him but I won't be staying there in a hurry!
The Oceanic isn't worth the price either to be honest, no frills rooms and a tiny pool for 2000. This can be had elswhere for a much cheaper price, though in Palolem the pool is unique. Same thing, Les and Sheila coining in on Palolems rise in fame, good luck to them too!! |

By the way John is Indian himself and as far as I'm aware doesn't operate a policy of "no Indians"
I am interested who the guy is who operates this policy! |

I would not pay more than Rs 1000 for any place in Palolem. There is no such thing as upscale accommodation in Palolem.
