Palolem and Arambol

We will be in Goa for Christmas and new year, like everyone else we are trying to work out the best places to be.

I have read numerous posts on here and other places and wanted to see if you agreed with the conclusions we have made.

We arrive at Goa airport 16th December and think heading to Palolam would be good, we are planning and staying there about a week as we get the impression is beautiful, quiet enough but plenty of people around and good place to relax and enjoy the beach. Are the bars open into early hours? (been to Varkala before and it all closes at midnight)

Thats the easy part though, over Christmas and new year we want to go to the parties in the North, Anjuna does not sound like a good place to stay but the best place for big parties (Do they get European and US DJ:s?)

So around the 22nd ish we are heading north, my question is would you recommend Arambol or Mandrem?

We are just looking for basic beach huts, is it realistic to pay less than 600 rupees at that time of year?

Thanks for all your help and I will be sure to come back on and answer some questions when I get back.

Happy Holidays

Palolem will not be quiet at this time, get ready for pumping music until all hours, neon lights on palm trees, and drunken shenanigans.......of course if that's your thing then go for it....

I much preffered Arambol, much more laid back, nicer crowd......

There are some shacks which stay open until pretty late.

The DJ line up varies but there are always at least a few European DJ's.

They charge that normally in Mandrem so at xmas its going to cost more but it depends on how long you are wanting to stay there for.
Mandrem is about a 45 min walk along the beach to Arambol, where it will be much more busier .

There's a good party in candolim on the 29th and 31st. It'll have carl cox and up and beyond, and a lot of other India line-ups. Then there's always the hiltop party on new year's eve, which is close to Anjuna. Arambol is definitely a better place to stay. I personally find the beach cleaner and quieter. If you're into the whole swimming thing, which I unfortunately can't, head over to Ashwem beach, even during Christmas, the shacks won't cost you beyond 3-400. Haggle haggle haggle! It's a pretty beach, great for swimming, not rocky like most of the other Goan beaches. And no bar in goa has a closing time during Christmas...cheers!

I stayed in Vagator a few year back. I found it quite calm and relaxed. There are a few hotels but I am not sure if there are any beach-side huts. The guest house I was planning on staying at was full but they let me know of a local who had a little shack for rent (200Rs iirc).

I don't know Goa well (only 1 week stay) but Vagator was a wonderful spot.

I have friend who arrived in Palolem yesterday and spent 4 hours looking for a hotel room . Most were all booked up then they were offered a room but was too expensive ,so i told them to try Patnem, they got a room there for 600rs and have a car so travel to Palolem in the day .
