God, it sounds heaven. Sitting on a balcony or verandah somewhere, watching the waves come in, rain on the roof, and someone to cook your meals. A Nanna Nap in the afternoons, and a leisurely dinner followed by a walk in the rain, and then to sleep, perchance to do the same tomorrow.

At the moment, I'm planting garlic, and digging potatoes and turnips. It's minus 3 out there, and I'm 280 kms from the beach.
I'll make my own lunch of cheese on bread, and a cup of tea.
Woo Hoo.!
Can't keep this swinger down.!!

Lightbulb Goa in The rains...

Well, keep it coming all u Goans around here.

Bunch of B'loreans here who will be hitting Goa inspite of the hole in our soles

Plan to stay at some place called Jack's place, can somebody tell me if this place is open? If so where exactly is it, what are the tariffs and place like?

We would like to stay at some laid back place around Anjuna with a pool preferably and lots of hammocks and some good ol rock n roll...

Any suggestions? Anybody?
Thanks a lot.

Cheers from bangalore where we are all set to do a rain dance to please the gods.

We flew into goa airport yesterday - not closed due to rains, but due to another plane flying into a bird causing damage!

We had to fly in circles for 1.5 hours before we could land - and then there was a pack of dogs on the runway and we had to circle for another 20 min!

Heavy rains last night and early this morning - a bit of drizzle this afternoon.....

You're going to be getting wet and not much of a tan at this time of the year... The sun might have come out for 5 mins today... That's about it... (Sorry) I can't afford the Taj, a months rent for my 2 Bedroomed apartment is probably less than one night at the Taj

So do people assume that Goa is immune to the monsoon then?

I mean, if you are into ski-ing, you don't go in the middle of the summer when all the snow has thawed, do you? Like, you check with your destination as to when a good time to go is?

As far as beaches and the party season is concerned, almost every destination in the world has a season. Off-season is just what it says, most venues, bars, restaurants and hotels close as the climate is not so good and few people come.

It just seems that for the past few weeks we have had a deluge (please excuse the pun) of people sort of "hoping" that the monsoon isnt too bad, most places will be open, the various markets will be on, the beaches will be fun, the party season is still happening, well I'm afraid its a big fat NO to all these things because................its Monsoon and off-season.

Thats why you got cheap rates (if you did). Did it not occur to all these folk, and there have been soooooo many, to check what the weather/season would be like BEFORE spending all that hard-earned money on travel and hotels?

Maybe this is why ash2ash got no answers, either no-one wanted to tell him that basically the place is shut, or everyone who is here is fed up with the same questions?

Many kind IM'ers have posted answers like, "it's very green", "there are no crowds", "the waterfalls are great", but at the end of the day this is not what Goa is known for, or what most of the enquirers are seeking. They are looking for sun, sand, bars, booze, parties and people. Well from early June to mid October there is very little of any of that.

Whilst the foreigners that turn up here at this time of year looking for those things mystify me, I can at least understand how the Indian tourists get sucked in.
For years now the Goan Government(sic) has marketed the place within India as a monsoon destination. Now I can fully understand folk from Dehli etc who are still sweltering finding it pleasant to come down here and stand in the cooling rain. But that is your lot, because no effort has ever been made to ensure there is anything to do once they have marketed the place.
So each year, in the tourist areas, you see large numbers of Indian tourists wandering around looking at closed down businesses, presumably wondering what they are like when they do open, avoiding puddles and red mud, and hopefully avoiding being ripped off by the few businesses that are still open?

I remember Hotel Leela in South Goa had a nice private beach, but this was 10 years ago. We had even stumbled upon a nude beach then in that area, dont know whats the situation now.

I must say, I had a great time in South goa, this time last year. they were a bit perplexed to see me, and that I was having a good time. There was a supermarket, and an ice cream shop, a barber, and a couple of good local restaurants.
It was heaven, my room cost 100 per night, There were no crowds, and the local people were really nice. We got a couple of days of sun, which was okay, but I like the monsoon, it's really relaxing sound.
The local bus took us anywhere really, for 5 rupees, and the cycle taxis were a blast.
I was in Benaulim.
It looked like any tourist town closed down.
But really it was great. i didn't go there to rage, or screw everything, or drink til I drop.

Blimey J5 thats one of the cleanest dogs i have seen in Goa .

What J5 said is spot on about the monsoon.
I have been there in monsoon and i would rather watch paint dry ! No clothes dry and you end up wearing them damp and they then smell. The roads are flooded and if you didnt notice the pothole before it was flooded your going to end up with a nasty accident if you are on a scooter. The electric is off more than it is on . And a lot of people get monsoon madness and will argue with you over nothing because they have nothing else to do .I could go on and on .
If the monsoon season is the only time you can go, go but only stay for a few days then go somewhere in India where there isnt a monsoon, cause there is nothing happening in Goa in the monsoon.Even the locals who have earned cash in the season are not in Goa in the monsoon.
