Nightlife and music in Goa

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm planning my first trip to India for December or January. I will be about 2 weeks between Goa and Mumbai.

In order to plan my trip, I'd like to know where is the best nightlife in Goa. I'd like to listen some electronic music (psy-trance) on the beach. Do you guys have any places to recommand for a newbie like me?

I'd like to know if there is any places where I could catch some psy-trance parties.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Scherzo and welcome to India Mike. Psy trance music has gradually lost popularity in Goa and you will not get beach parties of the type that took place in the 90's.

Having said that it is possible to listen to trance music in January at a few select events. The New Year Eve party at Hilltop in Vagator is the most famous one with a sizeable crowd.

Another famous event that took place in December 2007 for the first time in Goa was the Sunburn festival which was organized by MTV.

If you happen to be in Goa in January 2009 then give me a shout because I will be in Goa too. Like you I happen to be a huge fan of Goa trance.

I am really struggling to find info on trance parties this winter, from what i am reading there does not seem to be much around - not even nightclubs!?

Have you seen the "from goa to rio" dvd by above and beyond? It was partly filmed at the sunburn festival 2007. Looks immense!! Hope they put on the same show this year, i will definatly be there if it goes ahead!

There is one place which has a full on session every weekend in the winter. I am not going to name the establishment on a public forum. Keep in touch.

Thanks for your help GoanCanuck! Happy to see another Canadian psy-trancer.

Now that you say there might be a small goa-trance party for New Year Eve, I will resceduled my plans. Actually I'm supposed to be in India for the last 2 weeks of December. I will be travelling on an "around the world ticket" which I should buy in the next days. I planned to be most of the time in Goa with a small trip to Mumbai.

Because I have been listening to psy-trance for 10 years, I always told myself I had to go to Goa and experience the parties out there.

Anyway, because I'm about to buy my plane tickets, I'll try to be in Goa until the 3rd or 4th of January. I might be lucky that way and catch some of the vibe. My next stop will be the Koh Phangan Full Moon party in Thailand on January 9th.

Guys, I'll be happy to meet you up there! I'll just stay tuned to this new forum for me.

By the way, GoanCanuck could you please give me the details via private message about the full on session every weekend in Goa.

Scherzo - GoanCanuck won't be able to message you yet, until you have more posts and days 'under your belt'. It shouldn't be too long and there is plenty of time before you will be in Goa so eventually you will be able to PM him and vice-versa.

Hi Aishah,

Out of curiosity...how many posts are required in order to be able to PM fellow IMers?

Thansk,
Abhi

No you won't get the same type of trance parties. That was a totally different scene. The 90's were totally wild in Anjuna and I am quite happy to sat that I had a blast.

Like back in the days!

Too bad the new users can't write PMs.

Is there a reason why it's like that?

Take interest in other threads so that you can post in them. That way the mandatory minimum can be overcome. If there is more urgency then post you email address and then delete it after a day so that your work gets done.

All the best on Goa!

Cool Future Meetups for IM Tranceheads?

Well,

It looks like I am starting that job at the Euro School of Goa in October and will be based in the area until May (when i want to do a few months of travel).

I love trance (and drum 'n bass!!) and definitely want to check out mega parties - that was part of my reason for taking the job!!

If people want to meet up when they reach Goa I'd be totally into that - Especially GoanCanuck who sounds like he knows the scene well! - I'll stay active on this board and, hopefully, someday, have enough posts to PM!!!!

Yes, to stop some abuse that it attracted. A standard reply with one solution I have lying around (I found myself typing it out a little too often):

(Sorry for this standardized reply): New members do not have the PM (Private Messaging) function yet, neither to send nor receive. It takes a certain nr. of posts + period of membership.

You could create a free disposable webmail address for the purpose, then post it here. Or discuss what you need on the board. Be aware anyone could contact you on that address pretending to be the other. Posting your private email address is not advised, for all the obvious reasons.

There is an existing thread for this: Goa Meetups. The success rate of these meet-up threads varies (and it may not be so easy with a fleeting and mostly tourist crowd like in Goa); it largely and naturally seems to depend on people's ability to take the initiative and get down to business & fix a venue and date. It's always worth a try though; don't take it too personally if no one responds or it becomes a mess of everyone calling for different venues or dates, or if it just doesn't work out
