Newbie Goa 29th Dec -27th Jan

Hi I’ve been searching on this site now for a bit, finally decided to join up today and also decided to book flights today as above – in for a penny infor a pound as they say (somewhere).

Any how’s this will be my first trip to Goa and infact is my first ever trip anywhere alone!!! Keep swinging from feelings of total exhilaration to that of slight panic of the unknown.

Has I’ve only booked flights and no accommodation can anyone advise or help me sort out some form of accommodation for my first couple of nights in the Anjuna area. I’m hopefully going to meet up with friends out there for a couple of days after the New Year. It’s a surprise so I can’t ask them to organize anything or point me in the right direction as it would give the game away.

Also what is the best advice on getting a taxi from Dabolim airport and roughly what kind of cost will I be looking at?

First 3 nights accommodation over the New Year what will I realistically be looking at cost wise.
Any if anyone would like to meet up I would buy the first round.

i stayed in cavala - http://www.cavala.com/contact.html
and i liked the place, also it wasn't as expensive, u will find the numbers over there

the only problem is that it is near baga not anjuna - i didn't like anjuna as much too. but vagator near anjuna is nice

pre-paid taxi cost us 690 to baga from dabolim and anjuna is 5-7 kilometers to the right, but there are many ppl who would like to share a cab so you can try to talk to some

I have emailed the few places of accomidation that i can find on the web, they so far have all come back indicating that 29th - 4they are full but from the 4th January onwards they can offer me something.

If i could only get the first couple/3 nights sorted out at this end first i would be much happier than taking the risk of just turning up and looking for accomidation when i get there.

Can anyone advise where i can get a saftey deposit from in Anjuna to store my passport etc, some advice would be helpful.

Dec 29 would not be my favourite time to arrive in Goa and I very much doubt that you would be able to find anything on the web that you can still book. You just have to show up and see what is available. A few days after new year the number of empty rooms will probably increase considerably. I say all this without ever having stayed a single night in Anjuna but the scene is basically the same all over Goa during the crazy season of Christmas and new year.
For the taxi, when you exit the terminal, walk to your left and after 50m or so there is the office of the taxi union that has a large yellow sign in front with prepaid rates to all over Goa. Once you paid the taxi wallah will find you.

I have been trying to get a accommodation from 30th Dec in Goa, but I am not able to find anything in reasonable price..

All the places that are showing booked, might not be booked at all, as they keep the rooms for last minute arrivals and charge a hefty premium for the same..

The room that is available for Rs.800 on 3rd Jan is going for Rs.3000 from 30th Dec to 2nd Jan...so you can imagine the kind of prices they are asking..

I have almost decided to postpone my trip by couple of weeks and would go there middle of January..

Unfortunately i have no choice in the matter. I was supposed to be surprising my girlfriend but i was strugglig for accomidation so told her.

She went mental and told me not to come and never to call her again, i think she is likely to have been playing with the hippies!!!

Maybe first night on the beach for me but hopefuly not.

scotspower, I have booked three rooms in a homestay in Anjuna from the 28th to 2nd Jan in the expectation that there would be about 6-7 of us landing up in Goa at that time. However it seems that there would be only about 4 of us who would be able to make it and so we might have an extra room to spare. In a few days I would have a definite idea on the final count and if we can spare a room out of the three we have booked. The facilities would be pretty basic with about 2 toilets/bathrooms shared between the three rooms. Our room rate is pretty cheap since we know the houseowner and have been dealing with him on and off for the past few years. If you are interested I can drop you a line sometime next week if there is an extra room we could free up for your use.

In the course of exploring the availability of rooms/apartments during this period - 28th- Jan 2nd in the Anjuna or Vagator area I was in touch with a guy based in Baga who is into arranging accomodation - referred by a common friend. The rate he was quoting was in the range of Rs.3500 for a double room in Anjuna and about Rs.6000 for a studio apartment in Vagator. I can always forward his contact details to you if you would like to check out that option too.

Cheers

2cents many thanks for the offer, should the room become avaliable i would most gratefully take it. Please let me know when you can.

Burf - i know, but either i expend my energy in puting myself into a state of self pity or spend it on now being able to organise my trip around myself without considering anyone else. There will be girls from all over the world and some from other planets also!! lol

scotspower,
We have ended up with a room to spare out of the three we had booked so if you are still on the lookout for a place to stay from 29-1st in Anjuna, send me a PM and I will send you the contact details and address of the homestay.

Edit: Do send a mail to mymailid10@gmail.com instead of a PM. BTW when do you leave for Goa? I will be able to access my mail only till about 4 pm today as I am taking an overnight train. So in case I miss your reply later today, I will get back to you first thing on 29th.

That's mighty kind of you 2Cents. However, Scotspower being a new member, you guys can't PM each other yet. You could set up a disposable free webmail account and post it here to get in touch with each other. Posting your own email address is not a good idea.

And I hope it works out and you guys have a ball

Thanks for the heads-up machadinha. I didn't realise the new members don't have the PM feature enabled. I'll use a disposable webmail account like you suggested.

I am sure you have organized something special to ring in the new year! Have a blast
