Ambert, the Indian media has done a great job of propagating this popular myth that there are wild parties in Goa going on 24 hours a day. The only people who benefit from this myth are the hotel owners who rip off these poor suckers who come to Goa looking to "party".

Arambol is not a party town, those residents interested in partying generally rent scooters and zip down to Anjuna or Baga. It will, however, be crowded from mid-December through NYE and accommodations will be tight. Few places take reservations as it is mainly a long-termer place and places fill easily with walk-in traffic.

Goa is a State, not a town. So saying you are going to Goa is pretty meaningless. Like, I'm going to California for New Years, I hear there are parties, etc. Like any State there is a big variety of towns and activities and environments available.

I was in Colva Beach, Goa a few years ago for New Years Eve and it was very, very, very crowded with about 90% Indian tourists from India and NRIs. It wasn't much of a party, a few drunk teenage boys and a very strange rain storm .

Do some research and find out what kind of New Year's you want to have and you can probably find it in one of the many towns in Goa.

Hello everyone,
I've just been reading this interesting post.
I was planning on visiting Goa for NYE also. But it sounds like Anjuna and the surrounding area will be too packed for comfort ... I would love to be at a big party out doors dancing on the beach when the clock strikes... but is it worth the tripled accomodation prices and packed streets and bars??

Are there any places south of Anjuna that are good for NYE. Nothing too hectic, just a beach, drinks, lively music, good humoured people...

Thanks
R

dude goa has had it as far as parties are concerned... go in february and don't expect any parties.. went there in the early nineties for the first time, it stopped happening in like 2002.. gokarna is a good spot, but more for solitudes like myself.. basic vibe, good if you want to plug out for a while, good swimming, simple living and awesome chemistry, wouldn't go there for new years though, would still hit thailand or goa.... no harm in geting shitfaced once in a while at chapora

Thanks for all the good info on this thread GoaCanuck and others.

We don't have any specific desire to go to crazy parties on NYE - we are just looking for a place we can chill on the beach for the days leading up to NYE and then go to a bar or hang out on a beach on NYE itself.

We realize we are going to have to pay more $$$ for hotel/hostel while we are in Goa, but we are willing to pay up to $50/pp per night (USD) for something on or close to the beach. There will be 4-5 of us, all women.

Thanks!

This place is very close to the beach but very difficult to get hold of http://www.bernardsimaoresort.com/enq.htm

This hotel is really nice and reasonably priced but again very very difficult to get a room http://www.sunsetcandolim.com/tariff.html
