New Years in Goa

Hello - I am planning a trip from the states to India and will be in Goa for a few days during New Years. I will be travelling India for some time and do not want to stay in fancy 5 star hotels. Looking for more of a budget hotel. Can anybody suggest some budget hotels in Goa and what are the recommended areas to stay in. Also any tips or suggestions for what to do for New Years? Parties , etc. I've heard its kind of already late for this planning, but any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

this might not seem very helpful here. But, here is my 2 paise worth.

Avoid Goa (especially if you have never been there before) during NYE. All the rates will be doubled (or tripled) and the infrastructure -- roads, clubs, will be filled to capacity making it very difficyult to go anywhere. I was there during the last NYE and regretted it.

My recommendation will be to spend NYE elsewhere and come to Goa after Jan15. You will save a lot and have a better time.

goa is the wildest party destination in india and for new years, theres no compromising.ppl fly over to goa especially for new years and x'mas from all parts of the world.i coulld say that around 60% of the tourists that visit goa during this time are foreign tourists.
wild parties are happening all over the place, on beaches on the hills anywhere on the streets... every1's in a party mood.if ur a party person and even though the accommodation rates are the steepest as compared to any other part of the year, it surely is worth it.besides, if ur looking for budget hotels there are way too many places to find for cheap.so dont worry and go have a ball.

I'm also planning on spending NYE in Goa, since it is the only time I can be there (short trip - and there is a wedding involved over Christmas)

I am also looking for a medium budget hotel.... so if you find any, please send me message!

Thanks.

Medium budget can mean different things for different people. Please mention exactly how much you want to spend.

I'm going to be in Goa over Xmas & New Year too. I kind of thought it would be a good place to be seeing as I'm travelling alone and don't want the festive season to be lonely (plus I'm working for a charity there at that time) - but I'm really being put off it now. Huge parties and clubbing are not my scene at all! Is there anywhere in Goa (or nearby) that's more chilled out & relaxed that you can recommend for the festive season? Maybe I should just go spend the time with the slum kids I'm going to be working with.

Gokarna is a very relaxed and laid back place with no parties and few tourists. You can take the train from Thivim and get down at Ankola and take an auto-rickshaw from there to Gokarna. Om Beach which is just a few kilometres from Gokarna is very reminiscent of Goa in the early 70's. Great beach for swimming too.

I spent New Year 2003-2004 in Goa. We were at Benaulim in the south. There was music (some live) and dancing at the beach bars but nothing even approaching a wild party. The atmosphere was laid back and friendly with locals and tourists mixing together on the beach enjoying (and avoiding!) the fireworks all along the beach. We enjoyed it

Goa Goa Goa Its an pretty well good..Goa for me means Fun Shopping Enjoy but in limit And offcource Sand..So it is the wildest in India.Around new Year party it Will be at its full bloom..So Plz Plz Plz dont miss that buzz..Actually every year I am there with my cool friends for an month Starting from 1Dec-15jan Coz there r a lot of festivals of locals over there so to enjoy Goa u must be there a month before. I dont there is an increase of heavy rates over there..But u have to be remain in your budget..and for that u can have a cottage on rent it will be cheap asswell as it will give u a typical Indian satifaction..by this u can kick of the 5 Star luxury hotels..So by this time parties are all over the goa..We generally visit in deep forest of goa and there r a lot of tourist visiting there to find relaxation, peace, happiness, enjoyment, real beauty of nature and offcource many things.Best way to explore goa is by Bikes or rented Cars they are easily and cheaply avail there..so best of luck and dont forget to reply me..

take care

I agree with GoanCanuck thats its NYE is not realy the time to be in Goa..what are you going to enjoy ?? a million people trying to get to Tito's, jammed roads; its not Mardis Gras in Goa and no there are no "wild" parties whatever gave you that idea !!
