new years eve accomodation

Hi all,

I'm travelling to India with a friend and plan on making it to Goa from Mumbai (by train)on New Years eve. We are quite used to independent travelling and weren't planning on booking in advance, however everyone we've spoken to thinks we're mad. Now slightly more concerned we have tried to book and everything seems totally booked up. Any ideas or thoughts anyone??? We were planning on staying in the Palolem area, but are fairly open to ideas. We wanted something fairly chilled and basic.

Any help gratefully received

I would skip Palolem and go and stay 7 miles further up the coast at Agonda Beach. Same size beach - but much less touristy, and much more laid back. We stayed there last Christmas and there was quite a lot of availability even at New Year. We're hoping to go back up this year and stay at a new place called Bioveda which looks really nice. Stayed last year at White Sands, which was also nice. It's only a short ride back to Palolem, but staying at Agonda will mean that you avoid all of the fireworks and partying on the beach when you do want to sleep.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have managed to find a beach hut on Palolem beach, so I guess we'll have to put up with the fireworks!!!
