My thoughts on Goa this Xmas
Well the only other time i had been to Goa was in October 2001 for 3 weeks and then mainly i was based in Palolem. This time my base was Anjuna. I thought Anjuna, Baga, Candolim were a riot and had a whale of a time partying. I was expecting to be sitting in reading books when i heard all the stories of bars closing at 10pm, like where???? Curlies and Shiva Valley were open till 8am everytime i went down there. I did notice the majority of tourists seemed to be Indians as well who are allways friendly and like to join in. I thought the Vagator hilltop party was a bit of a let down 1000 rupees to get in!!!! Although i was told to go in the morning time and not so much at night and maybe get in for free. It was a bit like a cattle ranch in there and i wish i would of gone down to Curlies or Shiva Valley for NYE. I think Goa as moved on a lot since 2001 but it's still not as spoilt as some places in Thailand. I hope it does still keep it's charm for a long time to come.

Ouzodave. Thank for that but i have a few spots that keep me sane and away from the madness of Baga.
When i think of Goa i think of the place i go where there are no tourists.I sit on a deserted beach right next to a local bar with a Honey Bee in my hand.It is just perfect . |

Just got back and I thought it was great... avoided the middle bit altogether and hung out in Palolem and Arambol. Found it like Glastonbury festival on the beach and without the mud... fantastic.. there is everything you could want, whether it be yoga and healing classes, drinking sessions all night in one of the bars, swimming and massages, live music or trancey techno nights, shopping or great restaurants. It's all there....

Unfortunately good Goan cusine has disappeared almost completely. The so called Goan foods served half heartedly at some eateries are trash.

Patti123 - have to say I agree!
First went to Anjuna in 1987, and again in 1988 for about two months. In the mid-90s, we thought about going back for Christmas, and wrote to the Goan guy from whom we always rented a room - his advice was not to come! He said we'd hate it now - the main reason being the large numbers of Brit lager louts. Sad, because I have so many good memories of Anjuna, Chapora, Vagator and Arambol, and the people we met, both Indian and other tourists. But it's nice to have those memories - things move on, don't they! |

Goa is what you make it. To be shared and enjoyed by all. Never had a bad time there, or any trouble ever. Nothing stays the same much as we'd like it too. Even my home town in Scotland has changed so much recently. Yeah there are plenty of other places, but I'll always return there.
