Hey all,
I have a simple question. What is the best way to get to goa by road? I know this question is oft repeated but I am just lost. Could someone please inform me about the Volvo routes from Mumbai to Goa? I mean which are the points they leave from in Mumbai and are there any volvos that leave in the afternoon/evening? Phone numbers of agents will come in handy :-) Thanks a lot folks!! ~Carrie P.S. I know its a lot to ask for a fresh poster :-) |

Yeah, a plane with SpiceJet, or any jet gets you from Bombay to Goa in 45 minutes, where as driving can take up to 10 hours with all the bad roads and messy traffic along the way.

I would suggest a train that leaves very early in the morning..its around 5 am from Mumbai and reached Goa at around 1 pm..
You can get second seating tickets for couple of hundred rupees each... I guess its Jan Shatabadi..not sure though.. |

Hello Carrie and welcome to indiamike.com
Raj National Express has a 41 seat bus that departs Mumbai at 18:00 and travels to Goa overnight.(to Panaji) You can book online and board the bus in Bandra, Mumbai. The bus picks up from.... Aaram Hotel, Kalanagar, (Near Chetna Collage) Bandra (E) Mumbai. There are a few other companies that allow booking over the Internet, have a look at the following thread. Online bus ticket reservation sites No.

train to goa -- said to be quite scenic
I'd always thought part of the experience of getting between Goa and Mumbai was to experience something of India. ['Too bad the ferry still isn't back up and running. THAT was a "trip" in the old days.] The following url is of the train trip in May 2006 -- praising it. Note that the train leaves NOT from the Mumbia Central station but from Lokmanyatilak station about an hour away from downtown Mumbai. The train leaves Mumbai around noon and gets into Goa Karmali station (was Old Goa Stn) around 10pm. Luggage can not be thicker than 12" because it has to fit under the seat and there are no luggage racks.
http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel...AINS-BR-1.html That web site comments favorably about the scenery -- waterfalls, etc -- and about the railway foodstalls along the way. So -- it depends on how much time you have. Me, I'd take the day train -- walk around, look out the window, more or less be "lost in time" for the day. |

There is no longer any ship/ferry service on the Goa-Mumbai route. Quote:
Now unfortunately because the Goa-Mumbai trains use the Konkan railway route the Dudhsagar waterfalls can no longer be viewed while travelling on any of the Goa-Mumbai trains. Last edited by machadinha : Jul 16th, 2007 at 22:42. Reason: merged posts |

Hi Carrie and welcome to India Mike. Let me start off by telling you that travelling by bus on the Goa-Bombay(Mumbai) route is the worst option by far as compared to taking the train or a flight.
In the monsoon time from June to September the bus journey becomes even worse due to the massive potholes on the highway. It is fairly common for a bus to break down and the hapless passengers are left to fend for themselves. I have made more than 10+ trips by bus on the route but only because it was not possible to get a train ticket or air ticket every time. The pit stops that the buses make on this route are really the pits! This bus route has the distinction of introducing me to the worst toilets that I have ever had the misfortune of using anywhere in India. ![]() |
