No boat to Goa, fly down or take a train there.

Bombay to Goa in the 1960's
My friend Jim Mitchell was a Peace Corps volunteer in the Punjab in the late 1960's and he remembers taking a boat from Bombay to Goa. We have searched for a similar boat trip today but have yet to find anything. Let us know what you discover because we'll be traveling to Goa in January and would love to travel by water.

darn!!! I checked it now....I never expected that this wud be the case.. ONLY for Indians...now thats ludicrous and outlandish. A Cruise wud definitely attract more foreigners than Indians....cannot really guess the reason for this biasing

I seem to remember that the guidebooks of 15-20 years ago used to mention a boat down to Goa, but now the Konkan Railway is open, there is no need for a boat any more. The Konkan is quick and reliable. Scenic, too. Go by train.

There used to be a ferry to Goa. When I was in Goa 16 years ago it was running. I think it left daily. I didn't take it though.

The catamaran service has been discontinued. There is no ferry service between Goa and Mumbai at the moment and there are no plans for starting any such service. |

hi, thanks everyone for the replies, i did the train thing last year, which was grand though in a 3A we didnt get to see much of the views. Oh i wasnt really talking about a luxury cruise, more of a budget ferry, somebody mentioned something about it today and i just thought it would be a nice way to do it. No matter konkan here we come

I'll be just a few days ahead of you on this route.
Try Sleeper Class in the regular trains, or 2S (bookable 2nd class seat) in the fast Jan Shatabdi train. Book now, or should I say..... BOOK NOW! It's sooooo busy this route this year. |

Yes, not possible to go by boat or ferry to Goa unless you are an Indian on the Super Star Libra cruise ship. Not really worth it unless you have a lot of money to spend (for Indians only). As Steven said the non A/C is better for the day views in the Jan Shatabdi with normal seating (no sleeper) or the sleeper 2nd class in the night train to Goa from Mumbai.
Cheers, Aadil.
