Hi all - since IndiaMike was the first place I heard of the former ferry connection between Mumbai and Goa, I thought it fitting to bring up this news item. Probably worth following.

I would definitely take it. Was sad when they discontinued it. Thanks for the link.

Would be good to have an additional option, but I think they'll struggle to achieve a competitive price as for most of the year there are sufficient options, also seems strange to start the service in April when it will stopped in July for the monsoon.

There's already a new train planned to start very soon, and faster than the Jan Shatabdi, and I believe work has already started on doubling the rail line between Panvel and Madgaon.

May*

Won't survive as there will be very few takers. The NH-17 is doubling now. Konkan railways is also doubling till roha. There's also a NH-4 which has made commute hassle free on Mum-Goa stretch. So operating "normal" commuter services is not feasible. Tourist specials could be tried.

That - and the India - Sri Lanka ferry have been announced more or less every year for as long as I've been coming to Goa (well, OK - that's only about 20 years).

But, it did actually come about for a few days a few years back. Maybe, that is what this scheme intends..
