I classify Goa in North & South.

South Goa has mostly Star hotels & cater to mostly Indian tourist, typically coming on family vacation.

North goa is for "Travelers" & adventure seekers, & ofcourse what you are looking for budget.

South Goa also has palolem, a quite serene beach & you shall find several posts on this forum on palolem.

I normally hire a bike " Honda Activa" for Rs 125 per day in peak season.
Its difficult to tell you an excat location, but you can ask people & they can guide you. Its quite easy to find people lending bikes, but can't assure that they may offer a good deal.

Covering Goa - from Baga to Palolem, not more than 2 to 3 hrs.

In north, I personally enjoy Baga & Anjuna & not to forget Palolem in south.

You shall find very economic hotels near BAGA or its lanes.
Single roughly for Rs 250 per day & Rs 500 per day for a couple for a very decent accomadation.

You shall find cheaper deal as well, if you are ready to compromise on comforts of the room.

The beach hunts are economical.
But, they can get really inconvenient.

I wouldn't have thought that "shoestring budget" and "hiring a motorbike" went together.

Surely shoestring budget means sleeping on the beach or cheapo room and either walking around or catching the bus,,,,,,,,,,,,

I rented a room 4 years ago in Patnem for 100 roops a day. But you can ask around and get similar deals with locals. Argentina is a woman in Patnem that should have a cheap room. A moped cost me 80 a day for more than 2 weeks time. Ask for Farouk at Colomb beach for bikes. There a really nice family and give cheap deals. They have a driving school. So just ask for it at Colomb.
I also got a room In Benaulim for 100 also 4 years ago.
Shouldn't be too much more now.

How many "Travellers" prefer south goa over North Goa? except for palolem in south ?

Pls brush up your geography. Goa is clasified in north & south goa, just as India is divided into North, south, east & west.

At any point of given time, North goa is the preffered location by the "Travellers" & budget seekers, except Palolem area.

And isn't a fact that most of the 5 Star properties are located in South ? & it caters mostly to "Indian Family tourists". Please get your facts right. I have enough star hotels as my clients in south goa, & know the facts & figures.

And by the way there is no denial that there ain't budget hotels in south, but "travellers" prefer north over south.

"Travellers" & "tourists" are very diiferent people with very different attitude, according to me, irrespective of what you think.

We - means you are more than one.

Rs 10000 is more then enough, infact you can enjoy very well in Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per day.

As cited earlier, I prefer north anytime over south except for palolem.

I suggest north & explore it completely.

A decent accomodation should be for Rs 500 near Baga for couple.

Bike Rs 125 per day + fuel.

Booze - no limits - you can spend as much as you want to.

Good Restaurants around Rs 350 to 400 for a couple without drinks per meal. Non veg food might slightly expensive.

Water sports - upto you - whatever you want to spend.
Bargain hard on the price quoted for watersports.
I cut down for more than 50%.

I have gone for Dolphin sightings on a charter speed boat for just Rs 300 in the month of Jan.

Speed boat cruise by sunset for the same amount for half an hour.

You will have to search for these deals.

Avoid weekends they are slightly expensive.

I prefer south to north! Off tomorrow - back to Candolim (for the last time)south next time. The prices have gone up loads from 4 years ago but if you look around and aren't too fussy you should be able to live ok. I take hardly any money with me and always have a good time!
