Well, I suppose they're not that bad. They get you there! But, looking back at my diary...
I didn't think much of the food. The service was offhand. The plane seemed to descend and ascend very steeply, causing me more ear pain than other flights (I had the same problem with Gulf: is it an Arab airlines thing?) Kuwait airport, although bright and shiny-new, was not efficient or helpful (the staff that is). The Duty-free shop wasn't particularly good. They really enforced the baggage allowance on the return journey which cost me a lot of money. However, all the above aplies to Gulf Air, but even more so, with the addition of an extra stop (between London and Chennai) during which we had to stay on the plane for over an hour, the a/c was not working, and people were bullied to stay in their seats, not even go to the toilet. Friendly staff? I don't think they've even thought of the idea ![]() The only advantage to Gulf is that Bahrain Duty Free shop is excellent. |

They're Fine
Kuwait has been my first choice for years mostly based on their competitive prices here in The Netherlands (that and they're one of the few who offer 6 month open ticket with their base tariff)
I'm always quite happy with the service, the food is OK, which pretty much sums up all airline food IMHO. The service is OK to, though I did notice they were often short with the Indian passengers but I think there are reasons for this!! (Indian passengers can be very demanding!!) All in all you gets what you pay for and I'm quite happy with Kuwait in terms of price versus service!! The selection of movies/music is usually good as are the onboard computer games (perfect for whiling away those long flights!! I have to agree though Kuwait airport leaves much to be desired in all departments!! Kuwait has looked after me rather well on occasions, once after a delay of 2 hours I was presented with a dinner cheque for 45 Euros to spend in Schipol's restaurants or another time the flight was delayed by 5 hours due to fog in Delhi, Kuwait put me up in a 5 star hotel for the night and gave me dinner and breakfast before whisking me off to catch my onward flight! Not bad service I think!!!! |

I don't think that any of these Far East airlines are truly dreadful. They do, after all, get plenty of passengers and their prices are attractive as well as having higher baggage allowances than BA.
Gulf? well, if you know the schedule and you know where the plane stops then you know what to be prepared for. And I would be demanding: one is paying enough to be there! Interesting, Cyberhippie that you also picked up on the attitude to Indian passengers. To be honest I felt that is was racist. If it had been a European company I'd have been writing letters when I got back. I wasn't a hundred percent certain, anyway, but you're views seem to agree. Yes; I've seen Indian tourists in India be embarrasingly, unreasonably demanding. No; these families on their way home to Kerala were not being at all out of order. Can only say to anyone who finds themeselves on the receiving end of bad treatment: complain, don't put up with it. |

I've been on both Gulf and Emirates and personally think they are both a lot better than BA and Qantas for comparison.

I just found another thread about Kuwait airlines while I was tidying up around the forum. For some reason it was in the "it only happens in India section". Yet another good reason for using the search facility! Actually you wouldn't have found it as it was listed as Kuwaiti air! Obviously one letter makes a difference when using the search engine! |

My only experience with Kuwait Airlines was way back in 1989 from Paris to Bombay, so it's out of date. But I had such a bad experience that I won't ever consider them again. There were about 20 of us that were making the connection in Kuwait to Bombay, but although we arrived only 1/2 hour late, the other plane did not wait for us and we were forced to spend the night in the airport hotel. I was very concerned since I was meeting my family in Bombay to take the plane together to Goa and made it very clear to the airline that they needed to leave a message for my parents that I was okay and would be arriving the next day. This did not happen and my family was in a panic when I didn't show up and when Kuwait Airlines said I had not boarded the plane in Kuwait and had no other information about me. They couldn't even say if I had boarded the plane in Paris or not. Unforgiveable in my opinion.

11 kilos over on the way out! You're as bad as me!
I wasn't overweight on the way out, but they stung me in the way back. Other airlines, even includig BA have been much more lenient on my return trips. |
