Hello there, hows things? Thinking of you alot recently, what with all this chat! I think its very nice that everyone wants to share their stories with the world but I also think it would be better if they share personal information over private mail, not post it all over the internet...

Hi Shantih
Glad you have joined the conversation. I hope you and Mark make contact. I expect the stories you have to tell will make a wonderful book one day and will be a great legacy for generations to come. We have had some enlightening off-line conversations already and learnt a lot, not just about the main man. So I would like to say thank you especially to Liverpool Les and Anjuna Mark. Look forward to meeting. Sylvie |

This conversation really conjures up a world. Quite powerfully, it has an atmosphere and gravity.

It's just a matter of principle (and no, no harm done so far I think, but threads like these naturally pop up from time to time), and besides the moderators can't be expected to judge what is being divulged and what is crossing the line, so it's up to posters themselves to use some discretion.
From this site's Forum Rules, it's really very simple and self-explanatory, and I'd take it to cover non-members as well: Quote:

... so, family background, sex lives, past scandals is all fine.
But anyone mentioning an IP address will be banned at once. ![]() I wonder how the hell that got into our rules! Seriously, we are strict about the other stuff, though.

That takes a lecture, Martinez, but a simple definition is that it is the number (looking like 210.135.26.103) that identifies your computer, and every other computer, attached to the internet, so, for instance, your computer knows how to actually reach the Indiamike server, and it knows where to send the pages back to you.
As far as I know, there is no way for an IndiaMike member to know the IP (Internet Protocol) address that any other post was made from by looking at anything on this site and even if they did it would be of much less use to them than a telephone number. That's why I wonder how it got into our rules, and my post was a sort of semi-techie joke. Technical aside. Its the sort of thing that those who need to know about do know about, and those that don't need seldom care! Back to topic... |

Hi everyone, Paul here.
Anyone heard of "The friends of Mr Cairo" by Jon and Vangelis. Try You Tube if you haven't. Apparently Jon Anderson (of "Yes") met Johnny in a bar somewhere (I think Johnny said Bombay) and got talking. There aren't many Cairo's in the world. Johnny mentioned the only one he had heard of was the character Joel Cairo in the film "The Maltese Falcon". From this and the stories of Johnny life, "The friends of Mr Cairo" originated. I dont know much about their meeting. I wish I could go back in time and maybe pay more attention to these stories, although getting him to tell me anything about his life was always difficult. Going back to my previous post about the heroin thing, he always fought against it and never used after he left India during the time I knew him. Thought I needed to clarify that. He always was a person of extremes though and he did like a drink! Enough for now. Mark - do you know anything more about his meet with Jon Anderson? |

Johnny Cairo / Anjuna Beach 1974
Wow!.. I was shocked when I typed in "Johnny Cairo in Anjuna" and
was lead to this site! - I was living there with my 2 sisters, (from Montreal), in 1974 -- I never knew Johnny well, but the little that I did know of him, I never forgot (and Stevie too) - In 1977 when I was pretty messed up, and I was back there, he helped me out w/some money, it was so kind of him -- It was a shock to see that he died, (& Allejandro too), what a 'flashback to the past' those names brought me -- I remember their kids Matthew/Mark/Luke (in Joe Banannas) & so many other people too Does anyone remember (British) Cody?, he died from a 'hot shot' (murder?) in the Rex Hotel end of Feb. '75 -- He was such a sweetheart of a person (he had a son Jasper back in England that he showed me a photo of once) -- Max Milstein (Montreal), I think he might still be living there?,not sure -- I remember Cindy, shocked to see she died a few years later in HK -- Eddie (8 finger), still around? -- SO MANY people I remember...that I often wonder about...so many didn't make it -- Anyone hear anything about 'David & Ashley'? 'Sadu Tom, Sadu George?,( I heard George died (years ago in San Fran., by his own hand, I heard) -- So many OTHER people too that I often wonder about. Full moon party, New Years Eve 74/75, lunar eclipse?, (I THINK that all happened on the same night), anyone remember that?...or would that be an oxymoron?,(sp?)..whatever. Hope everyone that 'survived' is well, and R.I.P to those that didn't -- they will remain forever young. Barb I. New York City |

Hi Les -- I don't remember you, but that's not surprising,
given the times back then, ESPECIALLY around '77, as opposed to say, '74, when I think there was still an innocence about most of us (in MY opinion anyways) -- The way I remember things in '74, when we first got there in Sept.(monsoon!),... when I see Johnny/Stevie/their kids Mark & Matthew/ & SO MANY other people in my minds eye -- I realize how MUCH things had changed, just a couple of years later....Stevie was gone, which really sickened me when I heard...and everything else..people were getting really screwed up (myself included) -- so again, by THAT point, I wasn't remembering much of anything -- I don't remember all the B'ham guys (except for Johnny), but I'm sure I must have seen/been around them (and you), just 'cause I was THERE at the time...am I starting to ramble?....Texas Jack, I THINK I knew (up in Nepal), when he was there with his wife & baby...(whom I heard later died?) -- Anyways, I guess I better stop.
