Johny Cairo
Does anyone have any photos of Johny Cairo in his youth. I am his grandson and am looking to find out more about him.

hi Cairo, welcome to India Mike. Sorry I couldn't find any pics of your grand pa. But, just out of curiosity, who is Johny Cairo?

Unless he has a restaurant business in Puerto Morelos, Mexico - his googled trail appears more than a little dry!

I think Johnny Cairo may be a lead; he's reported to be deceased if that is true, which I truly hope won't shock the poster, but I expect not. (Not that I know of him, but from some web searching.)
He gets mentioned a few times on this site; you can do a search on either spelling, there are results with one N too. Good luck with it.

Johny Cairo
My grandfather was one of the originals of Anjuna beach Goa through the 70's into mid 80's. A well known character anyone who was there at the time would have known him or heard about him.

Hmmm... Long shot, I am not of that generation nor of that area, don't know anything about it. Anyway there seems to be a famous character of the era called GoaGil who has a pics section up.
You could try and contact them (backtrack to their home page), I believe they're still going strong: http://www.goagil.com/photogallery/Scrapbook http://www.goagil.com/ Also, there's this thread which might have some leads for you: 1975-76 in Goa... Help me find my father. Don't get your hopes up, it's obviously difficult. |

Hi Mark,
the "kid" is at school right now. Yes he is my son. Well actually there are 2 kids - both want to know about Johny. The mother of the youngest one set up this posting and penned it for him. Great to make contact with you again Mark, -been a long time. I'm new to this site, how do we exchange e-mail addresses? |

Hi Kid's father, and sorry for this standardized response:
New members do not have the PM (Private Messaging) function yet, neither to send nor receive. It takes a certain nr. of posts + period of membership. You could create a free disposable webmail address for the purpose, then post it here. Or discuss what you need on the board. Be aware anyone could contact you on that address pretending to be the other. Posting your private email address is not advised, for all the obvious reasons. |

I was hoping some of Johnnie’s many admirers would have posted something about him by now.
I’m hesitant to write about him myself; I am not a JC fan. I knew him too well. However; He had another child with an English woman about 10 or 12 years ago. He had extreme charisma. Physically, he was tough. Very strong in his youth, with a phenomenal resistance to disease. He had lung problems though, and was a heavy smoker throughout his life. I do have a couple of photos, but the best ones are in storage. When I get them next, I can scan some. It will be a while, at least a year, until I get them. When I met Paul, he had never met his father. The resemblance was striking. They even had some similar mannerisms, even though they had grown up in different [English] cultures and had never met. You can email me directly; my first name followed by my wife’s first name [same one] @hotmail.com Or perhaps one of the moderators could help us out by sending me Kid Cairo’s email address. |

the Kid's dad here.
Mark - hope you got my e-mail. To everyone else. Been wondering what to do about this "thread". By all accounts Goa must have been an incredible place in the late 60's and 70's. Some people have written about their experiences, but most have not. Maybe some of you can tell us a few stories here. "Unedited" if possible. My father was one of the large group of men who descended on Goa from Birmingham, England. They were not what you might call "peace loving hippies" but they had a big impact on the place. Maybe we can start the ball rolling at this point. Most of the guys are dead now (or missing in action!), but there must be some women that were involved and still live to tell the tale, so to speak. So please, sign up to IndiaMike if you are not a member and post a reply. As for spelling, Johnny is the usual spelling so if anyone googles Johnny Cairo, hopefully they will be directed here. Cheers all. |

Yes; it's been asked before though on similar threads to pay some attention to describing people and situations without filling in the precise details. Who knows where many of those people are now or what they're doing, and if they care to have third parties bring up their past.
Circumventing the A-Z's is often not hard to do with a little bit of tact and effort. In any case: best of luck with it. |
