Jan 30-Feb 5 in Goa

Hello friends

We are 2 guys in our 40's.
Is Anjuna a good place to stay to relax, socialize at night clubs, get massage, visit some churches and temples and of course eat some great food. We are looking for budget accomodations around Rs 1000 with double bed or perhaps 2 simple rooms up Rs600 with good toilets and shower. Guresthousees would be great.
Some specific referrals would be great then we could check the reviews on the list, which is so long that we can't decide.

We both like to meet locals and tourists. I am an avid ballroom/latin dancer and would love to find like minded folks and places.

We are open to new experience such as visiting Ashram.

All suggestions welcome.

We are clueless on travel distances at this stage of our planning.

Dhan-ya-vaad- Happy travel and peace on earth.
Mark

Ive stayed in Anjuna last February, Its a little quieter than the other small towns but from Anjuna they only take 10 mins or so on a scooter or public transport, The best meals that I've had were in Anjuna and also one of the best beer shacks for views and a cold ale. I'm not sure about accommodation in the price range you mention but we found it a little more expensive than one or two of the more commericial areas. We stayed in a Motel with a Pool well known in the area.....but I forget the name its a pinkish coloured place someone will know the name of this site and next door was the best restaurant that showed a big screen movie every night, King Fish , Tuna bar B q for about 450IR and great rum punch drinks for 90IR, I'm going back its making my mouth water just writing about the place...also Anjuna has a great market not to be missed and then there's another big night one which is only 10 mins from there.

Thank you Davey, love specific suggestions and cost.
Please anyone else add your ideas.
What do folks know about the Guesthouses run by the tourist dept. of Goa.

And this is a detail I am curious about. What to expect for linen, towel and room cleaning in a guest house.

Thanks
Mark

sunset bar in anjuna, 500rs for a twin bedded room with attached shower room, quite basic but clean and with hot water, food is fantastic as the owner is ex fisherman and handpicks the fish himself, perfect view of sunset from restaurant which is right on the beach and the owner don't allow hawkers to hassle you

its right next to the flea market

0832 2273917 tony or mary but they might not accept an advance booking over the phone, many of these places don't unfortunately but they also have top shop next door with loads of rooms

cheers
malc

I will also be in Goa from mid Jan to ?. A guy at the Purple Valley Yoga Centre (www.yogagoa.com) teaches tango, so he must know some others into latin dancing. http://www.tangoa.org/. I will be taking yoga at purple valley and was thinking about learning to dance as well! See you there

The Goa government does not operate guesthouses as such. What they operate are actually hotels with attached restaurants. They do not have any hotel in Anjuna, the closest one is in Calangute. You can see the complete list of the hotels owned and operated by the government here http://www.goa-tourism.com/

Is Calangute a good location for what we want to do.
Anjuna is not a fixed destination.

Thanks

Does not make much difference whether you stay in Calangute or Anjuna. They are only about 7 km apart.

We checked out the Govt hotel in calangute, saw about 4 rooms then decided to move onto Anjuna, it was a typical Govt run Hotel the staff arn't interested and the place was really noisy, sorry to say it but it was full of Indian Families on holiday and they have little concern for noise and personal privacy.
