Is it crazy to travel to Goa in monsoon?
Hi,
Myself and my boyfriend are planning on travelling to India in June-July and are totally confused on whether it is a crazy plan to head to Goa during the monsoon season. Is it a bad idea or doable? What would be the best things to do there if we did go at that time of year? Kee |

The western Ghats will be green and water filled, the jungles will be in full bloom with Orchids and it will be very quiet as few tourists remain during monsoon time!
The hotels will be cheap due to the lack of tourist and the monsoon in Goa as elsewhere tends to be patchy, meaning you'll still get a few dry warm days in between the rain and storms. So no it's not so crazy providing you are willing to put up with the occasional power cut and the fact that many of Goa's beaches are unusable during the monsoon season. Actually Goa has more to offer than just beaches, Old Goa with it's Portugues churches, beautiful temples set in wonderful green hills, sea forts, wildlife parks, great local cuisine, a bit of shopping, and warm nights to sit on your balcony with a tall drink. Go for it the lack of beach life may well encourage you to sample a taste of the "other Goa"! |

Hi Kee
Personally I would of coupled the Monsoon in Goa with a few weeks of sunshine...Best of both worlds.

As I am informed the monsoons are the best enjoyed in Goa. Unfortunately I cannot go as I was there just recently. I would have loved to sit in the balcony facing the sea having a nice drink and having someone by my side all the time to watch the waves hitting the shores furiously.
Take time out to have a nice body massage at some ayurvedic centre there. Make this a health trip by rejuvenating your body and soul. Steve Last edited by rsteve : May 26th, 2005 at 19:24. Reason: addition |

In Goa the trains are not usually affected by the monsoon. The buses also are not affected although they may run a little late. In other parts of India trains have to be cancelled when there is too much water blocking the tracks. |

[Little late, but still my 2 cents for those planning to visit Goa in monsoons which is during June-September]
Goa in monsoon is a paradise for couples. It's also fun for others who want to enjoy the beauty of nature in its loneliness. One can have romantic strolls on the beaches which IMO would be almost empty [crowd free]. But keep a watch for the rough waves as well. Get a room with a sea view. Try to strike a bargain with the 5 star hotels which are ready to provide great discounts in the monsoon.

i went to goa in the monsoon, well early monsoon. it was the first week in june and it was paradise. we went to benaulim. and truthfully we had the whole beach to ourselves. there wasn't as many restuarants and shops open. but fuck it. there were no hawkers! the fresh sea food as delicious, and i would say it was one of the best times of our whole trip. we really had a ball. watch out for the waves though!

according to photographer Steve McCurry monsoon season is the best time to be in india. he says the light is incredible. i personally don't like being caught outdoors in it and wading through the rain filled streets.
