Ior Bock got shot or stabbed or something and now he just sits and meditates in a dark room, mostly.
Indeed I met him. Not only that, but I was living next to he´s place while in Goa. They smoke allot off chillum (like crazy). First time I heard of he´s shots and stabs was like ten years ago, might be it happened more than once... I dont know about him meditating in a dark room though...
What is the genneral idea about him and his Lemin temple in Finland then?
Post me a private if you feel like continuing this conversation in order to get the thread back on topic.

no worries... we are planning on staying in Arambol a couple of weeks, but I still want to experience a couple of parties in Anjuna/Vagator area. I know Mike is totally against it, but I will manage to convince him somehow..

so anybody out there now? how are the parties like? still happening?

I'm briefly back in Britain right now but a week or so ago, Arambol had a 'calm before the storm' sort of atmosphere to it. It reminded me of Glastonbury Festival on Thursday night before all the action kicks off.

Parties were pretty thin on the ground up in Arambol. There seems to be some sort of 'no loud music after 10pm' law as the jam session at Loekie's has to end a bit prematurely sometimes. Having said that, the Dream Catcher's got a decent soundsystem that it's been warming up lately. I can't see that being turned off at 10pm for the whole season. Haven't made it down to Anjuna / Vagator yet so don't know how things are down there.

I should be getting back to Arambol next week. If you and Mike fancy meeting up for a beer or two when you're here, drop me a line.

I just got back from Palolem. I too was expecting to find something like a spring break party scene but at that time, it was pretty mellow and not at all crowded but definitely not the idyllic paradise that I once heard it was. There was more cow poop on the beaches than drunken tourists and partiers. I was told by locals that the crowds start to arrive in November and by December, the beaches will be so ridiculously crowded and will stay that way atleast through January. Definitely not my idea of paradise. Palolem is pretty but it's so overrated and I agree with many that it definitely lacks the flavor of true India, probably due to the fact that westerners seem to outnumber Indians there.

Agreed. Palolem has gone downhill very quickly in the last 10 years. Don't have any photos to show you but in 1989-1990 it was an awesome place. There were only two restaurants in the entire village. The emtire menu at these shacks was,

1) Fish curry and rice
2) Goan sausages
3) Pau bhaji
4) Omelette

Sadly I have to agree Palolem has had it's hey day! We first arrived in 96 (though someone had recommended it to us in 91) it was I believe the last year of relative peace on the beach.
I always remember the illegal hotel built on the north end of the Beach where cozy nook now stands. Four brick built rooms, with views to the sea, island and lagoon, Set on their own, the nearest restaurant was 300 meters up the beach!!
The phosphorous in the waves was amazing to watch, like a laser light show.
The new Palolem is a pale Shadow of the paradise beach it used to be.
We still spend time there every year but more because of our friend there and the still stunning, surrounding area, like the coast road and the Western Ghats.
We often comment that if this was our first time in Palolem we probably wouldn't stay either such are the unwelcome changes to the beach and village!!
One thing though, the people have largely remained the same friendly bunch they always were, though the new generation are showing signs of becoming like the other generations of Goans who grew up amongst tourism in the North of Goa, wide boys with the fake cockney accents, football shirts and western haircuts and piercings................Hey hey they call it progress!!

Hehehe...........One of the waiters at a shack in Candolim was trying to impress me and my friend one day with his fake British accent and it sounded so funny that we could not control our laughter.

Been to Goa quite a lot now, and so happy to get away from there. -
The coastalbelt of Goa can really be “a hell hole” as you say.

After all “Goa loves you; Goa is a paradise; Goan people are friendly and beautiful” –bullwaste I have had to see and hear I think Goa needs some balancing feedback and facing the reality.

People in the coastalbelt are very businessminded and you are treated as a wallet only, as a source of money, not as a humanbeing. This can get really ugly in the long run.
Friendliness and smiling and promising lasts for just as long as Goan get their money, after that nothing matters.
People are two-faced, they lie to you so fluently, greedy, lazy and proud in an unhealthy way.
If you complain about something, you are told to go somewhere else.
And many of Goans like to bad-mouth and complain about other Indians and foreigners, but never, never do they see anything wrong with themselves..

In the end I might add, that these troublesome Goans would have been easier to bear, if one didn’t have these troublesome drunken and drugusing British people as neighbours.

Yes, my holiday was spoilt.

Your observation skills are not great; I didn't notice many Goans amongst the Indians.

The generalisations and the tone of your post will encourage argument and not discussions, a pity, because I agree in principle with a lot you say.

I can relate to what you say, maybe you must have been staying in the wrong place for what you were looking for. Although I can relate to your view, I still have never had a bad time there in Goa.....BUT, last time I was there was 18 months ago, and based on how ive seen it change over the years i guess it has probably changed for the worse in the last 18 months. Shame.
