Is Goa a good option for a short summer vacation trip with the family

I have been planning my summer hols trip for close to 3 months now and the original intent was to start with Kerala, a place we had not been to as tourists. We are a family of 4, including two kids aged 7 and 3, so our plan was to not do anything hectic. The plan was to start from Trivandrum, spend a few days there, travel to Kochi and a few days in Kochi, then travel up-to the coast near Udupi to spend 4 days there where we had been recommended a good resort near a place called Baindur.

The closer I come to the journey (its in 2 weeks time), I find that I have doubts about the Kerala leg and wondering if it will be too hot/humid/exhausting for us.

I have a choice now of replacing Goa with Kerala in the first leg of my tour. Honestly, I havent been to Goa in 15 years and the previous trip was one of those packaged trip affairs for a few days where we spent more time on the bus rather than visiting places. If we chose Goa now, I would like a quiet place where the kids can also have fun and at the same time, we get to enjoy some nice beaches and maybe a trip inland.

I can handle heat and humidity but not sure about the kids, so will have to book myself into a resort.

Given all this, does it really make sense to change my plans to Goa? The only reason I can think of is that I avoid travel in the Kerala coast and instead will be spending my time in a smaller area of the coast. Does that sound like a good enough reason?

Any Point of views are much appreciated as long as you dont flame me too much :-)

If your memories of Goa are 15 years old, you might be very disappointed.

still some nice quiet areas in south Goa. with kids a good resort with a pool is recommended. having just done 2 weeks in a decent resort with my 2 kids {albeit in red sea Egypt} i personally wouldn't fancy checking into a place for a few days then packing and travelling for a few more days etc.
maybe suggest your budget and some reccomendations maybe forthcoming. i would go for the south Goa option.

Thanks JohnnyFive and musicsavedmylife for your inputs.

We thought about it and after a while, decided that we will park our Goa trip for a while and instead proceed with our original option of Kerala itself. Maybe we will go easy on the travel, and hopefully some early monsoon rains will present some cool weather in Kerala itself.

Music, I like the idea of South Goa for a 2 week holiday. Maybe next year when I can convince my boss to give me that many days off at a stretch

Hi

I just returned from Goa, not what is used to be 2 years ago.

My sister and I were disappointed, we also just returned from SriLanka about a week before hitting Goa…I have to say SriLanka is the new upcoming place to visit. Great prices, great places to see, beaches are clean and lovely…People are super friendly and no beggars on the beaches when we were there

I can give you my contact in Colombo if you are interested.

The image for my avatar was taken from the side of the road up in the mountains in SriLanka…Breath taking sight for sure

They also have an elephant orphanage, and that was pretty neat to see, the kids can bottle feed the baby elephants, and pet them.

Colombo is a very clean city, and the beaches are only about an hour away, so day trips are great and you can stay one night in any guest house or hotel on the beach.

We traveled up north to the tea plantations so yes we did a lot of driving also, however you just make it what you want and can go to many places with in a few hours drive.

As for the flight it is just over an hour from Chennai, and the visa is upon arrival also, costing each person about 20 US dollars.
