International driving permit.
Can any of you experienced Goa visitors tell me whether it's a good idea to get an international permit,or would my G.B. licence suffice?Being lazy I guess and trying to avoid more bureaucracy! For bikes only not cars btw.
Thanks in advance. |

no need
I wouldn't bother, I hired a scooter in Anjuna and drove everywhere, when I got pulled over by the locals for not wearing a helmet they accepted my Aussie license, it cost about 100IR for not wearing a helmet and I was told I could manage the remaining 24 hrs without one now I had paid for the ticket. Even the hire places don't bother asking most of the time for a license a good tip is go over the hire veh with a fine tooth comb with them and show them any scratches or faults you find so they're can be no arguments later
Good Luck |

An IDP only costs about £5 to make and is required for India. You are legally required to carry an IDP and your UK license together. I got mine form the RAC through the post. It was delivered in a few days.

get an international permit. mainly because it is disposable. if a cop asks for your license give it to him. corrupt authorities in india will some times take your ID away, in an attempt for you to cough up a bribe. he can keep your internatoinal permit for all you care.

In India it is the vehicle that is insured, not the driver.
You may wish to consider personal insurance and third party liability.
