Many of us from the west think material progress is the only kind of progresss. Its "bad for business" seems to be the rational when arguing against the govt's activities clamping down on public nuisance. Consider for a moment that the some Indian's value system may not mirror the west. If, for some of them, peace and tranquility is more important, they have every right impose those values on the tourists. Bitching and moaning on forums will really have no effect will it? But atleast attempt to empathise where others are coming from. |

shashank.aggarwal, there´s no doubt about it that Goa is a state of India and we shouldn´t discuss weather it´s merchants, shack owners, hotel keepers are of Goan origin or migrated from other states to this place in their pursuit of happiness. Furthermore the tourist industry might contribute a very minuscule amount of Goa´s income and the hordes of tourists coming there meanly for a fortnight are definitely not the one´s to decide upon what´s right or wrong or even best for Goa and it´s pending future, but there are tight facts you cannot just dispunge by making the overall statement any traveller is just a guest with little or none knowledge about the policy run by the local and state authorities. Well, I´m talking about the flip side of the coin, which you alas are not given to see, anyhow it has the deepest impact on all of Goa´s concerns and affects the matters of this sunshine state more you ever wish it would. I´m talking about the systematic sellout of Goa and all this state once was standing for.
Don´t look back in anger. A good advice, only if you look forward and there´s no change in politicians posture to detect, for me as a European travelling Goa since the beginning nineties and a little close with this state there´s no reason to believe a shift in direction is honestly aspired. Reasons as follow: Biggest hotels and five-star resorts are massively advertised here in Europe including Russia in thousands of travel agencies, aggravating and increasing the number of tourists efficiently per year, but nobody in India seems to be unsettled about it. Why´s that? Well, because half of the coast was bought up by western companies in the nineties. The shares are surely shared by people you and I will never know. Special offers, packages, cheap holidays, best deals, worldwide offers, discount Goa, bargain Goa, luxury Goa, honeymoon in Goa or adventure in Goa – google Goa and you come across the sellout. Millions of people all over the world are actively accosted by thousands of websites every day to please, please visit Goas golden and sensuous beaches for the experience of an entire life. But why´s nobody out there to stop this mad and over the top promotion if tourism should not be one of the supporting pillars in Goa´s economy? And why these commercials, when all the tourists are not welcome? Shouldn´t they be enlightened about Goa´s problems with an accumulating tourism getting out of hand? Why they are not informed about the local situation? Last, can it be that there are some most influential forces at work? For the minutes: This year the “Condor”airline, an affiliate of “Lufthansa” and the touristic company “Thomas Cook” got it´s licence for direct flights to Goa again with a doubled capacity. I´m not that much of a leery person, but in this case I assume that the cash machine Goa reached a new peek point in my country and there is no one in sight willing to end this output of more and many new tourists for the so praised paradise Goa. Do I have to criticize the Indian politics here, cause the embassys internet precence doesn´t say a single word about Goa´s problems with litter, water supply, dessicating wells, electric power problems and the fact that more and more residents feel caught between two stools? No, I don´t. This is just not a tourist job, but surely a serious problem that has to solved consequently by the people of Goa and the politicians they voted. Goa has to come to terms with what it wants in the first place. It´s time for a break and a restart for sure, but if tourism becomes a burden for this state, then I would like to see all the massive promotion for it to be stopped immediately. Only that I shall label consequent. When Pandoras box once was opened, there was no return. India should have known this, and I´m quite sure the responsible persons know all too well, what actually is going on. Strange enough the years pass by and the flip side of the coin still seems to be of minor interest. Only, the Goa hype is egged on without mercy and the tourists are dragged into the state with all new promises each year and in the end they are to blame for the undissolved problems they cause? Is that what you name provident policy? Me, I don´t. And my few Goan friends also don´t do, which certainly is why they look ever more worried each year I visit them. Indeed, Goa doesn´t live mainly on tourism, but believe me: The one´s who do would love to see enough tourists in the years to come. Hopefully the Goan government finally finds the balance between money making and the state´s breaking. I would appreciate it. York |

The panchayatt was trying to get rid of the lamanis in Benaulim. They are considered a nuisance to tourists. They tried to ban the renting of shops to them but of course the rental money was going into locals pockets. What to do? It seems that Goans like to blame migrants and tourists for all the problems in this state. It is never the fault of a Goan.
I expect Ingo will "buy" back his licence. Seeing as these noisy night markets are for tourists, a better idea would be to move them away from residential areas. ![]()

This was from the local Goan newspaper.
PANJIM: The Bombay High Court at Goa has asked the Chief Secretary to hear the organisers of Saturday Evening Fair/Market, popularly know as Ingo Saturday Nite Market, and decide the matter before December 14. The Division bench, while hearing a petition filed by Clive Braganza, challenging the revocation of the NOC/permission of the NOC/permission to run the market by the Arpora-Nagoa village panchayat, asked the petitioner not to operate the market till the matter is decided. Ingo never cut down a tree or a branch, in fact he is always screaming at anyone who even breaks a twig off! There is so much wrong information out about the man and his bazaar, it's nothing less of a blasphemy in the most unholy way. He's a man of honor and says what's on his mind clearly to anyone anytime. . and this my friend gets hard to digest for many a dignified aura's. they keep building mountains in front of him and he keeps working harder and harder to get over them. never asking anyone to help, this man is a pillar! An inspiration to all us feeble submissive souls wrapped around in a time wrap... wake up people! they are taking goa from right under our feet, bit by bit, season after season. the roads, the garbage, the markets, the night life, the open fields and anyone who is holding on to keep old walls intact! it's time to get real, it's time to face the winds. and together we are strong and can make a difference... for real.

He cut down loads of trees . He was never caught cause he done it early in the morning before the officials turned up to catch him .
Found in the Goa newspaper .......... Forest report axes Ingo's innocence CALANGUTE, Mar 25: According to an affidavit filed by Ingo Grill before the North Goa Sessions Court, contesting his deportation from India, Ingo says he is a businessmen dealing in antiques. But a Forest department report, inquiring into illegal felling of trees in Assagao, has documented the entire gameplay of Ingo in the Assagao saga. The report with Herald shows the nexus between Ingo, Freddy, the Saturday Night Bazaar and the Assagao panchayat. (H) |

Donīt care for the saturday night market, never did. Been there twice and found it really dissapointing. Overprized, overcrowded, overestimated. Only because itīs throughout the night and on saturdays people flock in. In 2006 I bought a ring I liked from a Brit - it was a new styler from Japan. Lol!
For all I care they can shut down Ingos nightmarket. Itīs a moneymaker with no roots to Goa, but only with connections to the panchyat though. And the tourists keep on coming......a joke. Even Baga is better than this. |
