In Palolem Right Now.....Here is the Update

Hi,
I reached Goa Yesterday.
Drove to the Pepper Valley Resort.
Kind of a let Down, they have 3 Huts, with common toilets and 2 New Rooms with attached toilets. Actually it is located in the middle of nowhere, Raju was kind enough to come to the NH17 to take us from there.
Had a meal there, but the Mobiles do not work so shifted to Bhakti Kutir Last Evening. Nice Place, the Only irritant being no running water, fill the flush every time you need to use it.
Palolem is Pretty Packed though. Today i finally got a room at Palolem Beach Resort for Rs 700/=. Nice room, and ah..running water.... Much better than Bhakti Kutir which i think is overpriced at 1000-1200.
But the beach and the food has been amazing.
Was in the water for 2-3 hrs....
Very nice and clean beach....and very lively at the moment.

Anybody needsy any info ask...i'll be back at the cybercafe tommorow.
Bye for now

Aah Palolem! Funny to think of it packed, even though I have seen it packed I still keep the first glimpse that I got of that lovely beach....empty, apart from the cows, the fishermen and very, very few other people. Those were the days.

If you feel for it, if you have the beach in your back, just right to the Silverstar Restaurant (close to the 'lifeguard tower) there are some little huts where they sell clothes and other things, in the one to the very right, pop your head in there and see if a young girl named Geeta from Hampi (pardon spelling) is there. If so, say hello from the Swedish woman (she probably doesn't remember me) who bought some trousers, earrings etc and gave her some magazines last year (I stayed in a room in the back of those huts for 2 weeks) and used to talk to her every day. I am curious if she received the package I sent her when I was back home. It contained many parfume samples as she had asked if I had some to spare her and as they were just laying around I thought she might enjoy them.

Tell her, if she is there, that I will hopefully be back in April.

Styler.

Glad your enjoying Palolem. Could you please help with some info. Some good reports were given of the Ordo Sonusar Resort. Apparently it is on the north part of the beach over a bridge, I am told. If you do manage to be in that area could you pop in and have a look etc. They are supposed to have a bar/restaurant.

Some huts have loos/showers attached.

Could you, if do go along, let me know what you think etc. I am thinking of spending a couple of days there with my wife in a couple of weeks time.

Is it an isolated place or is it in a good position. I guess we would not want to be too far from everything but not exactly on top of everything. Is the resort easily accessible. I was thinking of getting bus to Palolem and then, if poss, a tuk-tuk to the resort. would that be possible?

My wife and I are both in our late fifties-- that is why we want a few extras like attached loo etc. Was thinking of spending our 25th anniversary there.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you managed to make it to the beach in the early morning. I was wondering if they have fishermen working on the beach at that time.

regards, Pete

Hi Katta,
I asked for her, exactly at the place you told me, but Geeta wasn't there. Sorry about that.
Agonda is exactly what you say Palolem was back then.
Very few people, great beach. If somebody is looking for a secluded place Agonda is the place to be.
But Palolem was a place of my liking. Great Crowd, not too many people trying to sell you wares and boat ride.
Today i reached Calangute, am at the Chalston beach resort.
Nice place, but all the crowd is of foreigners OVER 50 yrs....
It's like staying in an old home. . lol
Calongute is not my kind of place....to crowded with not the right kind of people, and too many people trying to sell too many things on the beach.
Today it's the Cavala and then the Sat night bazaar for me.
I'm heading for Arambol Tomm.....I'll post the scene at Arambol in a day or two.
But the best place to be in Goa is Palolem right now.....Forget Calangute and Condolim...

more empty than palolem

its always nice to read about palolem. i' ve been going to goa for years now, and i've to admit with you guys... calangute and candolim are too crowded.
palolem is quite peaceful in comparison, although its going in the anjuna, calangute direction if you ask me.
if one is looking for a beach where no one will come and force you to buy clothes, jewellery, water, massage etc.. then the place to go is GALGIBAG
This is one of the best kept secrets of Goa.
Its about 3-4 km south of Palo and is also a nesting ground for protected turtles. You will not find any (NOT EVEN ONE) shacks on the beach!!!
Rooms not available close to the beach. So it has to be a day visit.
I would think you cannot sleep on the beach thru the night. the nests are protected by the forest dept. But if you are the adventurous types with your sleeping bag, im sure you could try.
Another beach which is close to undiscovered is Polem. This is the southern most beach in goa. Drive 5 mins more and you cross into the karnataka border towards karwar. Polem had 1 beach shack and 2 huts the last I visited (christmas 2005)
Agonda is also very very pretty and serene.

Hi and thanks for the info!

Maybe this is the same old guestion all over again, but do you think Candolim and Calangute will be that crowded still in Mid-March... We are arriving to Goa (Dabolim) on the 14th of March and was thinking of going to North-Goa (Candolim/Calang.) for a couple of days... kinda thought it would not that bysy anymore... but now I started thinking again... don´t want another Patong beach-like experience (Phuket, Thailand) --> it was AWFUL!! Will never go there again :P

I paid 1500 per night with breakfast included. Seing that the place is packed with a lot of hotels packed, i think it is a fair price. The room was see facing (One of only 4 Sea facing Rooms they have), it had hot shower, and the hotel has a nice pool. The room wa a very big one almost 25 ft X 15 Ft.
The rooms which are not see facing were for 1000.
For Summers the owners were quoting 2000 for AC rooms and 1500 for non AC

Hi,

I'm in Arambol. It was hard to get a decent room in Arambol.
Finally with a lot of persuation of the owner i got a room at Famafa Beach Resort, which i think is the only decent place to stay on the beach.
Decent Room with Attached Tolet here is for 400 a night.
First Impression of Arambol, Nice Place, but Palolem and Agonda were better.
Palolem & Agonda were very clean, i mean the roads, the people and the beach everything was much cleaner than Arambol.
I have 2 nights in Arambol then i head back to Candolim, Finally got a room in Sunset there. Pretty Pettals was full all through.I will stop at Anjuna & Vagator on my Way Back.

The best place to stay in Palolem would be the Palolem Beach Resort right on the Beach. Rs 700 gets you a nice room with attached toilet.

My partner and I have booked a hut at the Ordo Sounsar resort on Palolem in Mid November, but with all the domolition of the beach huts we are worried that it might not still be there. Does anyone have any information on this?

Many thanks
