Please could you clarity your question?

Do you want to import furniture INTO India?

Is this by way of trade, or are these your pesronal posessions?

Are you a foreigner, or do you have NRI or PIO status?

Are you a Resident of India (with a full permit)?

I have a similar query. I am a resident indian and one of my friend from outside India wants to gift a digital camera. Is it possible to send it through courier or post? If so, then is there any hassles as regard to customs? It is purely for personal use.

The DGFT website says items intended for personal use do not require any importer license and IEC code (there is a special IEC code 0100000053 for this category).

Digital Cameras are coverd under the ITA and are not liable to Customs duty unless they are capable of taking video/movie clips, in which case there is a 15% levy.

Your local Superintendent of customs may disagree!

If your friend sends the camera by DHL it will be less of a bureaucratic nightmare than if he uses the postal service.

well the case is a friend has bought in goa and has had difficulty in getting it furnished, causing much stress. i am an investor whois to help thisperson and collate as much info as possible.
the person is not resident and will be new personal possesions to fully equipe their new property which remains without complete furnishings.
i have continental truck driver experience and look at importing via road, sea and air.
is their much transportation available in goa to tranship from port/airport to final destination.
fitters would be required onsite to install everything.
thanks tel

You would be better advised to buy furniture in India.

Only take furniture from the UK that has sentimental value.

person cannot find what they wish and have been out there 4 times and done nothing to complete the property furnishing,as they do not know where to look or buy, where to get kitchen and bathroom, showers, living equipment for kitchen and livingroom bedrooms ect.

this is why it is now proposed to import it all.
any recomendations welcome

I don't believe this...

You have been to India 4 times and you can't find a shop that sells kitchen equipment, bathroom, showers, equipment for living rooms bedrooms, etc?

This must be a wind-up!

There are plenty of places to buy furnishings for the kitchen, living room, bathroom. You can buy most of them in Goa while certain items have to be sourced from Mumbai and Bangalore. You won't be able to import these items on your own. Only a licensed importer can do that.

Plus if you import, replacements will have to be imported and in turn maintenance costs will go high. If you can't find it in one city, you can find it in another. Just don't expect to make a UK like house. I am assuming houses in UK is like houses in Australia. It will be a major disaster.
