If you had a choice to stay at Arambol or Mandrem/Morjim
We are coming from 5 days in Palolem, and have 5 days in North Goa. Ive narrowed it down to either Arambol OR Mandrem/Morjim, but havent been able to make a choice from there. We're after a mellow beach area (but with people and some kinda social scene) without the full on rave scene. Looking for a choice of moderate accomodation (beach hut) and a choice of cozy eating/drinking spots. Any thoughts or preferances ?

Either's good, really.
Arambol's pretty relaxed most of the time (well it was when I was there) - it's not 24/7 trance hell at any rate. There's a good selection of places to eat / drink - lots of nice beach shacks and some astonishingly good restaurants. All at rock-bottom Indian prices. The long-term ex-pats that stick around for the Winter are a friendly bunch by and large, ignoring the occasional obligatory embarassing hippie. I've not stayed in Mandrem but from the look of it, I'd imagine that it would probably be even more laid-back. Less choice of places to eat etc. but maybe a bit more peace and quiet. I've got to say that I've only been there in March / April though (out of season) so it was pretty quiet then. I'd imagine things are different in peak season for obvious reasons.

Arambol is the better option. Morjim and Mandrem have very few restaurants.

hi
I am going to Goa for New Year week. Can you guys recommend a place near beach in North Goa? I know I have lot of factors much they are much like any other traveller. Some of them are:- Room should be sea facing, on a good beach Loo very very clean Pool not required, room service or indoor restaurant not required, A/C not required. (Though big windows for letting in sea breeze would be nice) Comments eagerly awaited !!! Budget Rs 1000/- per night for double Incidentally how is the scene at Morjim. I mean to stay how is the beach, is it crowded, how are restaurants, how is the party scene, is there a ferry to reach vagator and baga easily?

morjim i great if you want peacefulness! we did! we stayed at Turbo Turtle. It is a single storey building with about 10 appartments. ALso, the owner of PLanet Hollywood beach shack, Sean, has rooms to rent out, at very good prices! they are jsut acroos from the beach and are lovely watching the sunset at night! Not much to do around there though, a scooter is probably the best way of transport or taxi.
